Regear questions

Hey guys I was wondering what the best and most cost effective way to regear a 8.8 and a rev.cut dana 30 to 4.88 with new bearings, seals, a crush sleeve eliminator, and a ARB for the 8.8.  What brand gears, and where's the best price to buy?  The 8.8 isn't installed yet so I'm looking for brackets and E-brake kits also.  After I'm done how much should I ask for my dana35 with aussie and 4.10's on craigslist?  Thanks for the help.

Superior or Yukon would be my #1 and #2 choices.  Alloy would come next. (Alloy founder used to work for Superior)  Superior was the first to develop 4.88's for the D30 so everyone else reverse engineered them.  It's similar to what everyone does to Spicer with OE gears.

Shop around and make sure you know what's all involved with changing gears.  Carrier bearings, master install kits, etc...  If you're not going to install them yourself then you might want to order them through a shop as most won't warranty work from outside parts.

I bought all my gears from West Coast Differential.  Randy's Ring and Pinion is also OK.  Six States is an OLD shop as well.  (That's where Tom Woods got his start.)  There was a distributor that Superior owned or recommended, Drivetrain Direct or someone.  Although it now looks like you can but directly from Superior.  Check Qtec as well as the other big distributors as well.

A D35 could be worth anywhere from $100-350.  It really depends on the area and the options and condition of the axle.

Six states does a very good job on re-gearing IF you take the axle in to them...
They do enough of them to be GOOD at it.  Nothing fancy just a proper setup and out the door no BS.

just a heads-up
couple of months ago when i ordered my 10 bolt carrier shims from them their order page where you enter the credit card number was not secured (not https / SSL) but plain http clear text, i used a gift card to place the order (the card had $25 on it and the order was $20) - so pay attention to that. I wrote them an email about it, didn't check if they fixed it or not (at the time I also tried to put https in front of the address but didn't work at all, luckily i had that gift card handy otherwise i wouldn't have send my CC number unencrypted over the internet).

I got yukon gears and install kits with bearings and seals front and rear and haven't had any issues
