Looks like a lot of fun. I've never had the chance to drive over such a bridge situation.

Didn;t have a choice. It was the bridge or 2 feet mud pit. The second picture looks like you went through the 2 foot mud pit anyways...

More pics. The mandatory flexshot. 8 bolt rims are a pain to open. It gets to about the headlights a couple feet up. automatic 5"lift with stock YJ springs

Gotta love those Volvo axles? Want to ship a few over here to the US? Still turning drum brakes? With all the milky mud, how often do you perform maintenance on the axle, driveline, etc.? And the real question, where are the pics of the girls with the tone skin? ? On that articulating picture, watch out for those brake lines. It looks rather tight. For worldly location, in the south Pacific islands? Looks rather good for only having an axle swap.

Oh, those axles are HOT! Lots of ground clearance too! Not to mention close to half the weight of a D60. Only problem for those of us in the states is parts availability.
BTW: if you have your brake hardline go behind the frame, it will give you more length.

I should have just did the volvo axle mod and be done with it. No.... I had to do the SYE, 2.5OME springs, then 3.5 BDS, Ford 8.8 bla bla bla before trading all of that for volvos  Yeah, still turning drum brakes. Will be sending it in for discs this weekend. Drum brakes are *&%$# scary! Even after sealing them up with a fan belt mod. And I had to clean out like a pound of crud from each corner after every trail ride. No to mention I'd have to wire brush the drums, readjust the brakes.... Maintenance, just oil changes so far. It has new CV boots (front) so don't expect that going anytime soon. Other than that, it's just greasing kingpins. Yeah , the articulation pic, relocated the brake lines already. thanks. The girls? Ugh, girls who go like to go offroad here are pretty much the like men. Don't bother. :D

Frankly, these axles are very well made and very strong. The comp guys here run 2JZ twin turbos/7M/15BT etc behind them with 36" tyres (ok puny by your standards but that's the biggest we got) no problem. Yes, you'd be surprised to know for the same strength as D60s they have the same diametre axleshaft as the Dana 30. Same spline count of 27 too. Measured them with some spare 30 shafts lying around. Yeah, rerouted the brake lines. Thanks. Picking up the babies: Portal guts: Drop box with CV boot: 3rd member:

Those would be nice axles to have huge amounts of lift without having to change the suspension or any added weight. It seems out here most like Mog axles. I've heard of some people breaking the portal gears in them under heavy use. I really like the Volvo's though. I'd even consider buying one for a camping/crawling vehicle. Although with a top speed of 65mph, they are a bit slow for our interstate highway system.
I really like the wide axles with negative offset wheels. I've seen it done with full size D60's and Corporate 14 bolts. Then they use HMMWV wheels to keep the tires under the body. Yours looks really nice and skinny, sitting under the stock flares, too! It looks like you've got over 15" of clearance under them. What size tires are those? Interesting to see that your Jeep had front fender mounted turn signals (holes in front fenders). I thought those were only available for Europe? They required them in Bolivia?
