Just purchased as a "sunny day toy" a couple of weeks ago.. This is an almost bone-stock 95 YJ. 2.5, manual tranny - only "upgrade" I've done is replace the original radiator with a new 3-core. Spent most of the Labor Day weekend fixing two broken exhaust studs, then took it to The Cliff's Insane Terrain for a little fun.

Also installed the center hoop padding and tore off the original, torn soft top the put on a bikini top. Bought a Bestop Supertop, but haven't put it on yet - saving that for cooler weather.

More upgrades to follow in the upcoming months.

My boyfriend has a '77 Bronco (people often mistake it as a Jeep - he hates that), which he shows. It's taken home 5 trophies this year. He's had it for 10 years and it's gone through numerous mods.

Sorry for the pic of a Bronco - haha! He doesn't take the Bronco off road anymore - with the new paint and stuff, it's too pretty to take off road and a pain to clean up for the shows - kinda a shame - has lockers front and rear, twin-stick transfer case, blah blah... Anyhow, I wouldn't mind fixing up the Jeep and entering the shows alongside his Bronco. :)

With tires like those it's pretty clear that it's not an off road vehicle any more  lol  lol  lol  lol  lol  lol  lol

You'll have to checkout www.rorp.com , they've got a run later this year that starts at the Cliffs and ends up at Rockport.

I'd like to make it up to the Cliffs one of these days, sounds like my kind of terrain, tight and nasty.

Yah, he took it to the Badlands in Attica last year right after the Four Wheel Drive Nationals in Indy, and ripped part of a fender flare off. The tires are just too big with the lift that is on the truck. Now it sports smaller tires on the same rims. The Thornbirds are impressive looking for shows but a major struggle to drive on.

With the lockers the Bronco did an excellent job crawling it's way up a rock wall at the Badlands, but being that it isn't fuel injected, it kept dying when the truck's nose was in the air. He was definitely envious of my Jeep's fuel injection. After taking the Jeep to The Cliff's, it has officially earned permission to park in his driveway, rather than in the street. The man hates Jeeps.

...I believe he'll be working on the FI conversion for the Bronco this winter. :)

As a Jeep enthusiast I always get offended when people call other SWB 4x4’s Jeeps  lol

Congrats on the new Wrangler maybe you can talk him into selling the Brancho and putting the money into the YJ

Go outside the US and you'll see that anything remotely Jeep-like is called a 'Jeep'.  Suzuki, Toyota, UAZ, Lada, etc,...

Personally, that Bronco (Brancho?) is too showy for my taste.  It's very 80's.  For some reason, I like a mildy built Bronco.  Something along the lines of this.

He'd never read these forums, so I can agree with you. :) I don't know if it's due to his being color-blind, but I don't care for all the shades of blue, nor the ricer seats he has in it. I could do without all the diamond plate too, but he keeps putting more on.    Alot of people just go nuts over it, tho.

When you are at a car show, I don't think most people can see past the glitz to see how a vehicle is really built. His truck is built top to bottom, tho... there's a shitload of blood, sweat and money in the suspension and drivetrain. (And, he did all the work except for the body work). If you go to the 4 wheel drive nationals at the end of this month, you'll see alot of vehicles taking home trophies that don't necessarily have outstanding drivetrains and suspensions - just a gorgeous paint job, wheels, and interior.

I think it'd be more fun if we could off-road it without worrying about scratching the paint.

Actually I've been working on him to trash another showy 4x4 project he's been working on (old ugly Ranger), and take the 302 he built for it and stick it in the Wrangler. >Grin<

My daily driver is a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4x4. Not lifted - actually, it's lowered 2" with 17" Explorer rims, with a few suspension mods that make it drive like a dream on the highway. I'm not interested in lifting it and taking the road-worthiness out of it.

That's how it always is... form over function.  Whereas in the real wrong you need function over form.

LOL, gotta save that post...

This is why all the 4x4 Magazines went bling in the 80's and early 90's.  It was sad times.  Maybe if you layed some "4WD & Sport Utility" Magazines around he's get the picture.  They are lots of go and some show.  With a good hard clear coat you can save the paint from brush pinstripping.  I'd love to have a rebuilt Bronco for moderate trail use.
