A member of the Pirate4x4 Forum perhaps?

What's you're wheelbase at?  I've thought about doing a stretch but I'd like to do it the hard way and cut the frame.  Good thing I don't have the tools here to do it.   lol   I'd like more interior room to go along with teh 10" of increased wheelbase.

Seeing this pic is bringing up the second time I’ve ever heard of converting coils to leaves…

I own a YJ, and I used to joke all the time about people going backwards and converting to leaves…  I can’t believe that it performs better that way.  Coils extend forever, and the compress till they touch.  Rigid springs that don’t flex (what I drive with) make little sense to me.

But if it’s working, and there’s a lot more people out there doing it, it must be beneficial.  Just weird to me.

Well, the reason I went to leaves in the rear was partly for stability, but mostly for the simplicity, and was easier to stretch. I thought it was at 104, but after measuring the other day just for the hell of it, its at exactly 102". The springs flex fine, but I seem to be a bit tall. I'm running RE 5.5 springs up front. I'm going to set this rig down using 3.5" XJ leafs SUA (SOA now) in rear, and prolly 4.5" coils up front. It does great, but I think the lower COG will help out alot.

Strange way to mount shackle hangers, but if it works....

You mentioned a 4-link front suspension, isn't it a 3-link with radius Y arms and a trackbar?

Yeah, its just RE's stuff up front, radius arm style, not really a 4link. The shackle hangers are bolted on to the bumper, and the nuts are welded on the backside of the bumper. No probs at all with it. Like I say though, I'm dropping it down a bit using 3.5" 's SUA, so it may change.

What is the rationale behind the stretch?

Longer wheelbase makes the vehicle more stable when climbing.  Tt also gives you a bit more room for longer drivetrain.

Do you happen to know the length of the S10's? I believe they are a 3 leaf pack with an overload, correct?

A couple changes to the jeep since I posted that pic. I milled the shackles down, and redrilled them to lower the rear about 1.5". Added some 1.5" spacers up front, and got some new shoes. I fabbed up some new aluminum front fender wells that move the opening back a few inches.

Here is the link to the project thread:

And some pics for those who don't click on the link:

s10 springs are about  2-3 inches longer with a lil arch about 2 inches taller than a stock xj spring
