Anyone have a clue?

Situ: Currie tie rod for TJ. Installed in TJ. Zerks installed. Go to grease and can't fill tie rod. Grease comes out of zerk after removing grease gun. Pull zerk and poke ball. Moves fine. Attach grease gun and grease comes out like it should. Reinstall and same problem. Back off 1/4 turn and try to regrease. Grease comes out of the threads.
Measure with a tooth pick the depth of the zerk opening figuring it was bottoming out on the 'ball'. Zerk is shorter so it's not bottoming.

What's the problem?Huh?
