you're sure this screen is installed correctly, should isolate the filter from the engine bay so it won't suck in hot air.

Filter is massive though

Yup, it's bolted up exactly to the fender holes where it's supposed to.  The other side that you can't see is totally covered.  The stock intake gets it's air from underhood air too though.  It's good for fording water, low restriction....not so much.

The Jeep is my daughter's ride.  Her nickname for years has been Squirrel, so it was kind of a no-brainer.  beers

They did list two different applications, one looked like it had a longer tube that ran all the way to the TB, maybe that's what knotts89 has.  Mine has the shorter tube that connects to the factory plenum but it cost about $50 less.

well, that missing screen is quite important though - otherwise is really no different than sourcing a pipe and a filter.

The filter is totally covered on the side facing the motor.  But like I said, the stock intake wasn't cold air either, it's going to suck underhood air too (but it's damn restrictive).  As far as I can tell, the only way to get a cold air intake on a Jeep is with a snorkel.  For example my Sport Trac has a sealed airbox from the factory with a ram tube that runs out next to the headlight.  Lotta dudes on the Sport Trac boards ask about getting a CAI without realizing that it already has one.

The OE airbox on mine had a horn shaped intake tube that sticks straight up from the top cover.

You can always add some ducting and a scoop kind of like a Oldsmobile RamAir.  Then remove it when you know it's gonna suck up water.
