Title: Squeal Like a Little...
Post by: Rokky Rakkoon on February 16, 2018, 07:18:19 AM
Need your thoughts.

I have a squeal under the hood (1999 TJ with 111K miles) that goes right along with the engine RPM...higher the RPM, the more it squeals. The alternator is new so I don't think that's the problem.

Question: Is there any way to know if it's the water pump, power steering pump or one of the pulleys? I don't want to replace them piece by piece until I find the bad guy.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Usually when a water pump goes bad it will start to leak
from a small hole on the bottom of it.
When a power steering pump starts to go bad,
you can hear a change in the sound when you turn the wheel.
The ideler pully can be checked by removing the belt and spinning it,
should be nice and smooth.
While you have the belt off, start the Jeep, make sure the squeal is coming from an accessory.
But don't run it for more than a couple of minutes.
Did it squeal before the new alternator?
If not, maybe just the belt or the adjustment.
