Hi all, finally managed to get in.

Picked up a 96 XJ last year from my neighbor, was hard to turn down. 2.5/5spd/4x4/2dr. Seemingly almost doesn't exist.

So I decided over winter that I want to do something of a retro 80's build. Twin tube bumpers, roof bar with KC's, just the right amount of chrome everywhere, etc etc. Be a great beach cruiser kind of thing.

I've found that the 2.5 has adequate power with the 5spd and 4.10 gears to keep the 30" tires rolling, highway speed is no problem, not fast by any means but not so slow it can't get out of it's own way.

Been working on maintenance, and after doing the fuel filter, 6 hole EV6 injectors (with matching harness grafted in to replace the old harness), plugs and wires, this thing already found a few more of the missing gerbils. I'm quite happy with it.

But enough is never enough, and I'd love to pull some more power out of it. I'm thinking a supercharger will give me all the power I'm looking for and more.

So that's why I'm here, in a nutshell.

Time to browse!

https://www.quadratec.com/categories/jeep-doors-hardware/door-replacement-parts/lock-cylinder  The corner auto parts store probably has them as well.

You could also have the locks rekeyed to your existing key by a locksmith.  You also might need to change the lever bar on the backside but that's easy to do as it's onyl held on with an E-clip.

Hello all,

I have a '99 TJ and I'm down to one working door lock. I want to replace all three but I can't find a place to purchase them. I've been on line, been to the local auto parts stores and have come up dry everywhere.

Any thoughts on where I can buy locks with keys?

1995 Jeep YJ Rio Grand, soft top, 174k miles
Completely stock motor, 5 speed, D44 rear, 4.88 gears.
TJ front axles. (front turning all the time)
33-10.50 BFG KO2’s.(25-30 psi)
No speedo calibration, but pretty close.
4” lift.
I get about 15 city, 17 hwy if not in the mountains.
One thing I want to comment about is the new KO2’S.
Although still a 2 ply side wall, I really like them compared
to the KM2’s I had on it.
Quieter, better riding, better mpg, and superior in any snow condition.
Time will tell how well they work in the rocks,
but aired down with the extra siping, and aggressive side wall tread,
I think they will do well.

The Mess Hall / Re: Jeep overheating at highway speeds

Well, turns out the fan motor was full of cooked mud, so replacing the fan fixed the issue.  My guess is that the mud was limiting how fast the fan cluld turn, and the fan was actually blocking air at highway speeds.  There was also some mud in the lower part of the radiator that I cleaned up.

That's weird.  If anything it should be able to cool itself without the fan while on the highway.  Have you taken the radiator cap off and watched for the coolant to flow?  If you take teh cap off you should be able to watch the level rise till the thermostat opens.  Then the level should drop and you should be able to see the coolant moving.

With the fan, as long as your moving the Jeep shouldn't overheat even if the fan is off.  If the fan is off and the AC is on, you may notice the air warming up till you start moving...

So this happened some months ago, before the Jeep was taken out of commission, and I thought it was just the thermostat gone haywire.  So I replaced the thermostat, but, surprise surprise, I still got the problem.  The Jeep keeps cool with AC on and everything at city speed limits, but once I hit the highway, if I keep the AC on, it starts overheating.

Now, for those new to my Jeep, my jeep has an electric fan.  It originally was a Lincoln Mk VIII fan, but at some point, the mechanic I used to use replaced the fan motor for a new one.  And the new one apparently was the wrong polarity, so he had to reverse it.  So the new fan motor is nowhere near as powerful as the original.  And not only that, but now I can only use it with a relay, as because he reversed polarity, the 2 positives are now 2 negatives, and I cannot use the 2 drive options like I had it originally wired (I used one positive - low speed - for override on, and the other for the DC Control automatic controller, which was the one I used by default), and I could also turn it off to fording rivers.  I also have the winch up front, and I have AC and a winch up front.  Oh, and also a power steering cooler in front of both the AC and radiator.

Now, I have a new water pump (a Bosh one I bought years ago) that I can install (technically, it is higher flow than the original at idle, and although idle is not my problem right now, I have it, and it is not that difficult to change out the water pump anyway), and I do have another fan I bought that says it is from a Ford Taurus, but I have my doubts.  But at least it is a 2 speed one, which I could technically change and try it (it has its own fan shroud, but it is smaller than the one I have in the Jeep, so I would probably just swap out the motors).

So what do you guys recommend I do with this issue?

The Mess Hall / Re: Gas tank mod
« Last post by jfrabat on February 02, 2020, 12:03:07 PM »
Has anyone done the mod to there gas tank to get the full 19 gallons, i have a 15 gallon but i heard its the same tank but different hose. anyone have any info for what exactly to do? TIA

I did it YEARS ago (2008?) on my 94 YJ.  Meter would read full for a while, and then drop quickly.  I know when it read 1/2, it was really 1/4 tank.  When my pump started acting up, I replaced the sending unit, so I could have an accurate gauge.  A few weeks ago, I had to replace the tank (hit something in the trail and broke mine), and it already left the tube out.

Yes, there is a matress.  You also don't have to worry about uneven ground, bugs and animals.  The downside is that most camping sites in the US are semi furnished, so you have a driveway, table, fire pit etc...  Typically the table and fire pit are a ways from the driveway.  Also, for sites that are first come first serve and you need to drive someplace you have to pack your tent to go anywhere.  Not only that but if you don't leave enoughs tuff to mark your spot someone else will take the spot.  Another downside to the RTT is if it's rrainning and you want to wait it out in the tent.  RTT's are small.  With ground tents you can easly go 4 person or 6 person for two people and have room to stand and more room for storing clothes and whatnots.  For the money I'd probably go with a Kodiak Canvis 4-Person.  And there would still be enough monet got a Dometic fridge.  Though I've thought about getting a RTT.

In my experience (keep in mind I live in the tropics!), these RTT are better.  You get further away from mosquitoes, and the do set up faster.  Plus, they do not take space inside the vehicle.  Down side is that they do put weight on top of the roof (easier to roll the vehicle).

Regearing makes a big difference but costs a lot.

I first went to 4.88, but a few years ago, I went to 5.13 and I am happy there.  But as far as I know, there is only one company that makes 5.13 for the d30 and d35.  Some people say they are fragile because there is less contact (including the mechanic that installed mine), but they are still running strong and I have never had issues.
