Swapping 231 for SYE 231
« on: October 17, 2014, 11:35:46 PM »
Have a 94 YJ, 2.5, 5-sp (AX-5), and the stock 231. I've got a SS SYE on the back of a 2.5, 5-sp 231 case from a TJ. I'm pretty sure its a complete swap other than the vacuum switch.

My question, will the trans leak when I pull the stock tcase off?

My drip a little, I'd probably just put a clean pan under it and catch whatever comes out.
I think mine dropped a half pint when I pulled it. .
But I'd replace the trans rear seal while I had it broke apart.
Too easy and cheap  to leave the old one in there..

I have a steep driveway. I think I'll turn it around, face it down hill, put rear tires up on ramps and then go from there. That way I can sit under it for a better posture...

it leaks like a b!tch. With your plan it  might not, maybe add a jackstand under the tail of the trans to keep it from leaning down too low.

I guess I can do it the easy way when I add the body lift replacement bushings....Might as well lift the carpet/boot up around the trans shifter and then pull the cover and refill that way once tcase swap is done.

I have less than a pinky between front rear ds yoke and floor. It keeps hitting the floor under take off accel and bumps on the road. Had issue before due to broken motor mount and missing torque trans bushing. All that's been replaced. Guessing the crossmember is 'flatter'.
