'89 YJ 2.5L TBI throttle body spacer
« on: May 03, 2018, 11:09:09 PM »
Hi all, forgive me if this has already been asked... I can't seem to find a throttle body spacer for my '89 with the 2.5 TBI engine. All I'm seeing are ones
compatible with the '91 and up TBI engines. Does anyone make one or is there a throttle body spacer deisgned for another vehicle that fits my Jeep?

To my knowledge no one makes a spacer for the TBI 2.5l. there are a few old threads about people making there own spacers. The thread below had the most useful information. Unfortunately all the pictures are dead due to photo bucket's changes... If you do a search there are a few other relevant threads. I had a bored out TBI from another member with a matching spacer but never ended up installing the spacer before selling the Jeep (spacer was sold to another member).

Thank you for the response. I found a local place here to make me one. Should be done tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes.

Not sure if anyone is interested in this.. However, the spacer went in easy enough. EGR is now deleted as well. the old 2.5L TBI is running great and ready for my trail ride this weekend. FWIW I do have a strong 5th gear now.

Did you use the gasket as a pattern?

I drive a '98 TJ 2.5L auto, 31/10.50s. Putting on a TB spacer (and a properly geared speedo gear) was the smartest thing I did. Mileage went from 12.1 to 17.9, (50% increase) the shifts were cleaner and all-around drivability is just excellent. I live in S.W. Florida, so 'trails' consist of running the canal banks at night, spotting gators with my grandsons.

Glad to hear the spacer worked well. I never jumped for deleting the egr but the bored out TB made a significant improvement especially over 3000 rpm (I didn't take it easy on the 2.5l).
