I searched and read a few old posts. I wanted to get the updated answer.
I'm pretty sure my header is cracked. sounds like an exhaust leak at least.
what are the current options for replacing the header?
pacesetter
banks
???
also my muffler heat shield rattles alot. so I want to replace the muffler.
I don't want anything loud or ricey.
but I don't want to spend more than $50 either.
cheap partstore (autozone, advance, etc) turbo muffler is what I've been thinking.
thanks for your time

50$ total or 50$ on the muffler?

I have a Cherry Bomb Turbo on my YJ. Went the same route... on the cheap. Not the quietest thing. I have a lot of drone in the cab, even with the roof off.
I have a loud 800cc cruiser bike, a loud 72 GMC and a loud Hyundai... For some reason, I don't like the loud Jeep.

When I bought my latest Wrangler, the previous owner had clamped a 16" glasspack to the cat' and called it good. Needless to say, I was in the market for a muffler and tailpipe. In my area, I found NAPA to have the best price. They had an OEM sound part that was more than $100, but they had one ("soundmaster" or somesuch) that was inexpensive enough that I got it and the tailpipe for a little over $100. It's louder than stock, but not too ricey. I had a Dynomax on my '01 4.0 that was quite a bit louder.

From Gunbroker . com a guy that sells to muffler shops.
If ya want a little rumble have a muffler shop put on a Flowmaster Super 44-for a little less rumble either a Flowmaster 50 Series or a Magnaflow--you can hear what a jeep sounds like with them on Flowmaster or Magnaflows websites-for on the cheap a Turbo muffler or GOOD glasspack will work too--not those garbage red devil ones at the local Autozone. I had a Hushpower muffler-made by Flowmaster on my TJ and it gave it a really nice tone-and you can tuck them up higher than a regular muffler because of their design.

$50 for the muffler only
no flowmaster, not on anything I own :flush: :pot:
mostly I'm looking for facts on what headers are working for folks.
I know I'll get mixed opinions on mufflers. but I'll likely get a stock replacement for $20

so I'll try the banks header then...

Out of the two, it's a no brainer. Stainless steel vs carbon steel. Although the Banks is a shorty design while the pacesetter is a long tube design. Still, I'd pay extra for the quality and not have it rust out on me. Borla used to make one but sadly they stopped. They have had theirs out on the market the longest.

Id check all the bolts before switching the headers. The exhaust gasket is also a problem with the pacesetters, I made my own gasket and torqued all the bolts to spec and all the exhaust leak noise went away

These guy's don't list a 2.5L Jeep in there line up but I know they can make one.
