Title: Tie Down Straps
Post by: VA_YJ on July 28, 2011, 08:31:59 AM
I'm in the market for some heavy duty tie down straps for hauling Jeeps on a trailer.  I'm thinking four 4" straps.  Does anyone know of a good (inexpensive) source for HD tie downs?

Thanks!

For hauling anything rubber-tired on a deck trailer, you should always use chains and boomers.  And always cross-chain.  No chance of it falling off, then...  :beers:  I don't know where you would get them in the States, though.  Semi Truck parts stores, maybe even Harbor Freight?

Thanks for the advise.  I will look for chain tie downs with tensioners.  Don't want to lose anything off the trailer...

You could look at some of the tow truck supply sites, all kinds of straps and ratchets. WE buy from   http://www.awdirect.com/
If you look at car transporters you'll see that almost all use poly straps and ratchets.

you should be able to pick some up at a local flea market or the like. Just need to look them over good. I picked up a heavy 20' tow chain for $15 at a yard sale. check out the goodwill stores too, I just got a set of Victor Brand Torches( not the chinese nockoffs) for $75 at Goodwill.

Large ratchet straps for tying down your trailer are fine tiedown the axles and not the frame and yes cross the straps.

2" ratchet straps from a Farm Supply store are plenty.
