Title: anyone used this magnaflow muffler or similar?
Post by: sharpxmen on August 17, 2011, 11:20:34 PM
I'm trying to get something skinny so i can make room to relocate the shock on the rear passenger side upper mount (move it higher up and forward to gain some travel and be able to relocate the lower mounts on the axle as well) - i was looking at this magnaflow muffler, summit has it cheaper than the msrp listed but what i am interested in is how loud is it compared to an oval (direct fit) magnaflow - they are both straight thru but i have no idea if one is louder or sounds better than the other.

They are fairly loud, a 2.5 in pipe inside a 4" tube is not a lot of space to muffle sound, that unit is more of a resonator.
On a YJ the muffler is up right behind the cat converter, You may be able to fit one there?

Good Luck

the oval shape on the stock muffler does not give me room to offset the shock away from the frame at all, was looking for a skinny alternative. I'm just wondering how much louder compared to an oval magnaflow (4x9'') - so one dimension is the same and about 1/2 on the horizontal.

EDIT: it will fit so that's not a problem. both the oval and the round are pretty much the same internally, straight thru from what i understand, i will check to see if a 5'' round will fit, that might be a better alternative.
