Hi there guys. Does removing the cat on the exhaust give any gain on the 4banger?
-
no, putting a performance cat on it does though, without the whole illegal as hell thing too
-
On Mine it did, but mine was plugged. :slapfight: Putting on a new header on back now and will be putting in a cat again.
-
In reality, it depends on what cat you have and what condition it is on. If you have an old and clogged cat, it will make a HUGE difference. If you have a fairly new high flow cat, it will make little difference (although still SOME difference). IS it worth it? Not really, as, if you run your Jeep in the US, it is illegal to run without a cat. Same here in CR, but I am considering loosing mine because it IS legal in Panama to run without a cat.

My car is a 2001 TJ and it runs like it has no power. Maybe it is clogged, thats why I am considering this.
I am having problems getting to 60. It takes long as hell.

most likely that's the reason but you can't be sure, however if it was a lack of fuel you'd be getting a CEL due to too lean mixture error. just buy a $50 universal and throw it on there.

take out your #1 O2 sensor run it with it hanging in the wind for a quick run around the block and see if you pick you some power.. cheep way of seeing if it's your cat being plugged

But is it possible after 40k?
Well, the car sits over the winter in the garage. Maybe thats why

40k would be enough, what happens is sometime they break inside and plug the output of the cat and not necessarily that the honeycomb is plugged.
-
When you say honeycomb, you mean the cat?
The 4 banger isnt that slow right?
-
It depends on the gearing and tire size. What are you currently running?
-
I am running stock gears with 225/70/16 tyres
-
It must be something else then, with stock tires the 4 banger is not bad at all.
-
Hehe. It must be the cat then. Nothing has been done to the exhaust. Just changed the spark plugs with cables and all the filters. Nothing changed and I was WTF

i mean the ceramic honeycomb inside the cat (it's not really a honeycomb but i've seen it called that on a regular basis).

I will have to wait for the summer to come so I can cut the cat out. Hope there is going to be a difference.
The car has been just sitting in the garage over the winters for the last 6 years :D
