What I have done is I have Herculined the interior of the tub, installed seats from a Pontiac Sunfire, installed a row of LED lights under the lip on the bottom of each door to help people to not trip and a center console. I was going to go with a center console/cooler/heater from walmart but not sure if I really want to do that. Looking for better ideas then that.
-
Got the rear seat brackets from ebay and mounted the rear seat along with the rear seat belts and a fire extinguisher on the roll bar. Also, the Jeep emblem in the center of the steering wheel was missing so I glued in a picture of Sarge, from the Cars movie.
-
I got a tj sound bar with interior light witch I wired to work with the switches :thumb:
I have tuffy security audio console for my cd/usb deck!! I can flip over the cover it's weather proof when closed "top off" also have the stock cassette deck as decoy in stock location for thief's :thumb:
other then that I have typical cb installed.

Oh, well, I have done many things, and I consider them all cool in one way or another...
- Seat covers for all 3 seats (cool because it made the Jeep look about 10 years younger than what it really is)
- Stereo system - 2 6" speakers in modpods under the doors, 2 6X9" speakers in sound wedgets between the rollbar and the rear fender, Blue Tooth main unit, 1,200W amp and 12" aluminum subwoofer (cool because there is nothing cooler than blasting your music with the top on or actually being able to HEAR your music at highway speeds with the top off!)
- Rhino-lined interior (cool because now the tub will last longer, is a little less noise, and I dont have to worry about scratching the paint when I go wheeling)
- Center console and saddles (cool because it lets me store all the Jeep stuff inside the Jeep without it looking like it is inside the Jeep)
- 5. Tuffy overhead dual console (cool because both radios are out of the way from the elements, yet extremely accessible)
- Using the same switches for all my accesories (cool because everything looks uniform and like it belongs there!)
-
My YJ has a foldable rear seat and tuffy expandable "lockbox." http://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-297-071-expandable-rear-security-lockbox.aspx (http://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-297-071-expandable-rear-security-lockbox.aspx)
It's been decent going from hauling a bunch of tools in the expanded box to hauling one or two more people in the same space once the seat is up, the tools are out of the box and the thing is "broken down."
Like my Tuffy center console with the insert for the radio, also.
-
My Kenwood stereo with 7" retractable screen is still one of the coolest things in or on my Jeep. Integrated Garmin GPS, back-up camera and iPod integration makes it a triple threat.

did you lined your hardtop? imo that's the coolest thing, didn't see a YJ like that yet other than yours.

Most of the later aftermarket tops are lined with carpet. My Guidon/Steel Horse didn't have them but later models did.
The coolest thing I've done to the interior is probably swap out my seats from Mastercraft Rubicons. They're cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They breath so no sweaty backs and they're super comfortable.

i was looking at those, they're really nice - does the back adjusts/recline or they're one-piece?
only issues i have are that they're fabric (so prone to getting soaked if you get a quick shower not to mention getting dirty, at least in my case they would) and not sure if they have a recline mechanism for the rear bench (not using it on a regular basis but once in a blue moon i put the rear bench on for an occasional passenger there) - how are these things working for you?
and of course the price is prime but i guess you pay for quality so that's not ultimately an issue.
-
Ripped pretty much everything that was not essential for 4 wheelin out of my big Jeep.
Still got to tear the heater box out and all none essentials will be gone, I like this Jeep as bare bones as absolutely possible

Mine do not recline but then that's not an issue. You can buy some that do but they're a lot more money. The cloth is pretty wide weave which breaths. There is minimal foam in the seat so it should dry out quickly. I've done several 400-700 mile road trips and they are still comfortable. The seats are also 2" wider then the stock ones so if you have a large center console like I do you'll have to adjust the seat outboard a bit. Also because of the angle of the seat and the added foam at the front of the seat, it's as if the seat is 2" taller so you might want to lower the seat some. I removed my sliders and have fixed seats. I also don't have a tilt wheel so it made getting in and out a PITA.

Well I accidentally smeared Herculiner on the stick and now the knob barely goes on!!! Actually I played hell cleaning it up. Just kept screwing the knob on and off till it cleared it off.

I am actually thinking about painting the dash with interior dash paint to give it the newer look again. Has anyone tried this? I did it to my Honda and it turned out pretty nice.

Look at my post in Nuts and Bolts Eastwood company Interior Die/Paint

Mine came lined with carpet, so no rhino there...

I have done quite a bit with my interior.
1.Hurculined the tub (No carpet in it when I bought it)
2.All three new bestop seats(The old ones in front were shot and the rear was misssing)
3.Replaced the head unit with one I had at the house with a detachable face.
4.Tuffy undersear rear storage box. (Finally a place to securely store tools/valuables)
5.6X9 speaker boxes with marine grade speakers in the back (not the best setup, but most cost effective at the time)
6.tinted the windows of the the hard doors and hardtop windows
I want upgrade the interior lighting, fix the tear in the top of the dash, add a center consol, and maybe some more secure storage on the rear fendors in the back.
-
I looked up the Tuffy underseat rear storage box and that is pretty cool. Wish I had that kind of money! Might try to someday fabricate something like that.
I have this rubber mat stuff that my dad gets from work. It is used in rail cars under very large rolls of paper as an anti skid surface. They are about an 1/8 inch thick and possibly 3/16 thick. I was going to put that in between the carpet and Herculiner this winter because it gets cold in Iowa. Any yays or nays on that idea or is there something better?

didn't realize interior included removable tops lol "exterior shielding" lol I got my hard top windows tinted to.

I want to add carpet to the hard top but it might be too late in the season.
With the Herculined tub, I put the carpet back over the floor and wheel well after they took a few rounds in the washing machine at work. (Washing the carpets made them look a little better but they were still loaded with dirt. I plan to add another temp layer for sound barrier and to keep out the cold this winter. I really hate the cold but love riding in my jeep.

Try driving a Jeep after By-pass Surgery in the winter. That is the reason I bought my truck 20 mile drive to get to work and I could not get warm.
But now that I have the heater fixed its not so bad. Or I'm no longer anemic from the surgery.

I'm doing the jeep thing and it hurts when I pee!

I figured since the tint was on the "inside" of the "exterior shielding" it would be included as an interior upgrade. Plus it helps protect the interior, when they are on the jeep anyway.

I am very simple. Smartest thing I have done to the interior is use sunblock on the dash. Its never garaged and the dash has no cracks. Coolest thing was taking out the back seat and using it as a handyman vehicle. It has a large cargo area without the seat. I have had power washers, lawn mowers, and with the front seat down, a 6'6" plow in it. Yes, I could even close the hatch. I got the fire extinguisher on the roll bar, the floor is lined and the plugs are pulled. Anytime it gets dirty just stick a hose in there and its done  One of those overhead consoles would be awesome. Waiting for one to pop up on CraigsList.

you mean as in UV sun block? unless you have the top off it won't make a difference, UV light is filtered by your windshield glass (that's why you don't get a suntan in your car if your door window is rolled up). My dash is not cracked either and i didn't use anything on it, so i guess the coolest thing i've done is not to use sunblock on the dash and it has no cracks :roflol:

Yes, windshield glass is treated to filter out some UV rays only to minimize the fade/damage of the car. It is NOT enough to keep UV rays from harming skin. I know, I am very white! Even had the glass tinted out in California and still could get burnt driving for hours. Thanks Sharp for the welcome back slam on my first post in a long time  I don't remember where I heard it was good or who told me but I just did a search on the net and there are others who put sunblock on their dashboards. Here's a link: http://www.ehow.com/how_4576322_protect-vehicle-dashboard-uv-damage.html

geez, i didn't think you'll take exception to that otherwise i wouldn't have said anything
-
I'm convinced the sun will eventually crack a dash. Several of my Dad's pickups are really damaged this way. Just a matter of time if you don't keep it covered.

I'm guessing you used something like 303 Products or even Armor-all. Armor-all is known to dry out the dash pad if you use it a lot. Although the YJ has such a small dash, I don't think UV is really a problem. Mine's still nice and I haven't treated it in centuries.

Just sunblock. No-Ad 30 spf. Applied while sitting at stop lights.

Sun block is mostly a moisturizing lotion with some UV protection. I think most UV protectants like Turtle Wax, Mothers, etc... for interiors use similar moisturizing formulas for leather and vinyl. The main difference would probably be any fragrances added to the Sun block. Also, they aren't as oily/greasy as they are designed to be washed off eventually. The ehow to suggests using UV protectant afterwards which is probably doing most of the work anyway. Honestly though, the YJ's dash is a really small surface and doesn't get that much light/heat. I've lived in the tropics for a while and never bothered to use UV protectant. Although I did occasionally used a windshield sun screen and or parked with the windshield away from the sun. Never had any problems with the vinyl drying out.
-
One thing that helps is that the YJ windshield is almost vertical. This makes is hard for the sun to hit the dash when the sun is highest in the sky.
-
Here's Johnny comes lately! :driving:
The neatest and useful item I did to the interior was the mag-light holder by the left of the driver’s seat on the floor. I used to set it on the floor, and soon as I hit a decline, it would fly under the clutch pedal or brake. I've mounted the holders both in my YJ and TJ just fine. I must grab my flash light at least once every week. It's nice to have it at the ready.

Mine has lived in the tropics for a bit over 5 years AT LEAST (Miami for 3 years, Panama & Costa Rica for 2) and I have no issues with the windshield, and have never used anything to protect it (except maybe a bit of mud and dirt, but that was not intentional!)...

@ 1995YJ
You don't need the brake anyway right??

I had about 7. Didn't garage it either. I don't think it's a real big issue to begin with.

my dash is outside constantly as i rarely even have the top on mine unless its winter, and mine looks fine.
as folr the paint yeah i did all my dash panels in krylon color bond spray paint or something like that, forget exactly cause its been years
my interior stuff, yeah i have to agree with jeffy that my mastercrafts are my favorite
then my herco'd tub because i hate rust and liner seals so well. i also boxed in the rear section of my tub so i have a permanent two seater with lockable sotrage area in the rear, that makes the lack of top manageable since i can lock the hole rear of the tub up.
other than that i have a sound bar, wedge speaker holders in the lower roll bar gaps, a diff head unit, multiple 50cal ammo cans mounted for recovery gear, short throw shifter, aftermarket steering wheel, tuffy glove vault, jks racing harnesses, bar mounted extinguishers, and blah blah blah else. haha i dont retain any factory parts half the time when i decide to build something. i have tried to make my wrangler as useful interior wise as possible while making it utilitarian.
-
hey jeffy, while we are on the subject have your rubicons started fraying material? mine at the entry points have started coming unweaved at the edges and i have to cutoff and extract a few threads sometimes. i still really like them for comfort and all but i think im going to have to buy the covers for them eventually

Nope BUT I did noticed an area where my sold shorts has velcro for the pocket was fraying a spot on the seat. I think you should be able to get the seats reskinned. If you don't lift yourself up high enough, I can see where they would start to fray there though.
-
well the way i have my column and seats/shifters set up its made like a cockpit in mine. i kinda moved everything around a little so i was more snug and everything is at the most comfortable spot when im in any situation, problem with that is i have to almost slide down into my seat around the wheel. i think i may put a race removable wheel in it because i love the way it sits so i dont want to change that. but yeah i may be able to get someone to redo the material when it get too bad cause the seat is still in great shape. just figured id ask you cause your the only person i know with the seats other than me

Jeeps use a GM steering column so you can use a Grant GT disconnect. I wasn to use one but I also want to retain my stock wheel. You might also consider lowering the seat down. I also want to do this. I have my seat on the stock mount with the sliders removed. I have to step up then drop down into my seat. I don't have a tilt wheel. I want to go with some Corbeau mounts which will drop the seat an inch or two.
-
i moved all my mounts around for the seats and placed the seats closer to the middle of the jeep to give me a better feel in the vehicle plus its more room before im up against the door too. i have a grant wheel now so i might just have to get the disconnect hub, also be good securtiy but at the same time id have to lock it up in the back everytime i had the top off or it would just get stolen probably
