Ok, so my horn officially died, and it is nmot the horn itself, because I already replaced that. It seems the problem is the contact on the steering wheel, but I have NO IDEA how to fix that. Any ideas on how to fix this (other than installing a new HORN SWITCH or BUTTON!)?

When you do find the Problem please E-mail me to let me know. I pulled the steering wheel pulled apart the contact plate cleaned every thing and still nothing,

Take the horn botton off. Inside you'll find how the horn works. There are three screws that hold a plastic ring. Under it is a contact. Clean the contact. Be careful as you can get shocked if you leave the battery connected.

By "horn button" you mean the Jeep logo" Mine came without it... But I have never seen the 3 screws.

Interesting... I'll take a look at that before taking my steering wheel apart!

i think there'a also a fuse, and if you didn't check put a jumper cable straight to the horn to make sure it's not shot.

Know I'm not getting any spark to the Button/ contact. So guess I need to find that relay. Fuze is good.
-
I know it is not the fuse because it worked on and off before it died. But it certainly sounds like either a bad relay or a bad contact... I will start with the relay because of simplicity, and the look at the contact. As for the horn itself, I replaced that thinking it was damaged by water or something, so the one there is new...

Dumb question is the windshield washer tied in any way to the Horn. Cause that Died on mine at about the same time. Have put in a new washer Motor but am not getting juice to that either.
-
By the wiring digrams they come off the ing switch together and split from there .

Must be a aftermarket steering wheel?
The pic is the stock one, I've had 2 different jeep wheels but both used the same internals...

No, I meant the Jeep logo in the middle of the part that Jeffy took off for that picture (you can see it in the background). I still need to pull out the horn straight up. Any ideas on how to best do that?

You NEED a puller to remove the wheel. Its Mother to get off with out one.
Most cheap tool and auto-parts stores sell them for under 20 bucks.
The other thing that goes wrong is the rign or the brush wear out and dont make contact anymore.

Wait a sec; the FSM does not mention pulling the wheel to check the contact. It seems it can be done without hving to pull the wheel, right?

i'm going to say yes but i think you need to for the brush, can't remember exactly

There are two sets of contacts, one is under the button, the other is the slip ring on the back of the steering wheel.
The slip ring contact wears out and you have to pull the wheel to get it off,
if the slip ring is bad sometimes you have to replace the hub or the whole wheel.... :brick:
Use a sharpy to mark the wheel and hub so you can get them back in the same
place otherwise the wheel and turn signal cancelling are out of sync....
This is really easy so dont sweat it, do it once and your an expert.
Good luck.

Oh yea,,, leave the hub nut on to keep the wheel from popping off and hitting you in the face when the puller pulls it free...
"If there are no pictures it never happened...."

Hmm, never had any problems removing my wheel. Came off without the need of a puller. :fya:

the stock one on mine came off w/o puller, i have an aftermarket now and that one is no way coming off without it.

Well, I learned a couple of things today...
1. I DO need a puller to take my steering heel out
2. My problem was NOT thecontact
3. Never trust mechanics to check the basic stuff (like, say, a relay), as many times they dont check $h!t....
My problem was fixed as easily zs cha ging my horn relay...
