Title: In laymen's terms please
Post by: Islander on March 19, 2006, 10:04:54 AM
What TB/Intake upgrades can be done to a pre 91' 2.5L YJ.  What years and parts swap to a  pre 91' - if any.  I've read about 6 dozen 4.0L TB swaps threads and how-to's, and none of them are clear (enough for my thick head anyway) about specific years needed or compatiblity.

So - how can I get more fuel/air into my 2.5L.  Anything from junkyard tricks to off the shelf speed parts - P/N's are always best.

Those are MPFI 4.0L TB's.  There are no injectors in the TB, that's the dead give away that it will not work.  Not to mention the bolt pattern for a pre-'91 is a 3 bolt pattern and not the more common 4 bolt pattern.

I've heard of some people using a TB from a 4.0L Renix TB but I'm not certain if it will work.  I've also heard of some people using TB's from older TBI Chevy V6's.  But with a TBI swap, you'll probably increasing the injector size also.

Anything can be done with some tinkering though you might need to have a drill press.

So no aftermarket or commonly known junkyard bolt in swaps for pre-91 2.5L YJ's is what you're saying.

Well, the easiest way to match a TB is with the gasket.  That's how we figured the 4.0L TBS fit the 2.5L. (year before the whole 4.0L craze.)

So that's a no?  Yeah it fits the 2.5L, but not pre-91 - In perfectly simple terms - the answer is no, correct?
