2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 5.3.
Around 45 -55 MPH it has a bad Stutter if you try to give it a little bit of gas. From time to time it has now started at lower and Higher speed. Does not lose or gain RPM.
Had this about 8 months ago and it ended up being a bad coil(finally got the check engine and code for a coil so I could tell which one. Replaced it and the stutter and all went away.
But now I'm not getting any error codes.
Checked the Internet on possible problems and not one said transmission all was ignition Problems. Plugs were replaced around the same time as the coil so where the plug wires but have had problems with the new wires coming lose and pulling apart. so now most are right back to the old wires.
Now I've ordered Live Wires to replace the ones I have now and when I do will replace the plugs again.
But am having a little problem with the fuel gauge reading wrong(drops to zero and says I'm out of full, but I just filled up with 20 Gal) Sending unit and pump come as one. I am getting one error Message and that is P449 which is evaporative emissions system. Just found out that there is also a sending unit part of the pump that could be throwing that code. But that code I've had for at least 6 years. Did take it in and they could not find what was causing it.
It also is now running rough at Idle so am going to clean from the filter to the throttle body and the 3 sensors in the area.(this did not help last time, but I did replace the IAC last time)
Anybody think of anything else.

either ignition issue or bad injector (running rough at idle).
do the "pull" plug wire or injector connector to see which one is less significant (maybe one of the cyl not running at all). you can also let it idle a while then pull the plugs, should tell you which one's the culprit.

Mine was doing that as well, no power above 30MPH turned out to be a fuel tank/tank strainer problem.
If you search on my handle and tank it will probably come up....

yea, check the fuel pump. Mine was going out on my 01 f150 and when I would drive over 50ish I would randomly, but regulararly feel a miss/studder. Didn't figure it out until it stalled on an offramp. New pump and it was golden.

My Sport Trac had a bad miss and a CEL a couple weeks ago. Turned out to be a funked injector from the ethanol. Shop put in BG Fuel System Cleaner and BG Fuel Dryer, cost $29, problem solved. The Ford dealer would have rebuilt the engine and charged me $9000. Shop owner advised running injector cleaner more often than I have been doing it.

Well I may fianally have it. Got an error code today of a P0305. Which means a missfire on cyl #5, This is the same cyl I had the problem with when I changed the coil last time.
But while narrowing it down last time I moived the Bad coil to cyl 6 to see if it was the coil and it was. So the new coil was put on cyl #6.
But I never changed the plug wire on cyl #5. That may have caused the coil on #5 to go again.
Will pick up a new coil tommorrow, New plug wires will be here 10 Apr.
Been hoping an error code would show up to help me.

What size motor is in it?

My buddy has the 454 in his 99 and it never seems to run smooth either and no codes. Glad you pin pointed it.

Well put in the new coil but still had the problem. So waited till my new Live wires showed up and replaced the one for Cyl 5. Would have done the rest but it was flat pouring.
It was the plug wire. Truck is running great again. Took the old wire into work and tested the wire for resistance. It showed it had a break in the wire but depended on how it was bent the reading changed.

Glad you got it fixed. :beers:

I ordered a teralow kit. An atlas would have been nice. But I'm afraid if I put it off until I can afford an atlas I would have to replace my clutch too.

hmm, good for you but can't really tell what's the atlas got to do with the ignition coil
did you mean to post this in another thread ???

For what they charge for a terra lo these days , I would have continued to save for the Atlas. I got one of each and will never ever buy another terra lo or recommend one
