This thing is killing me. So I am driving the other day and the jeeps starts to kick and sputter sparatically. I had somethig else going on at the time so I just got it home and parked it. I looked at it on Sunday and found a check engine light. I pulled the codes and got three of them. 33, 41, 51.
According the hayes manual 33 is Ac clutch relay ( don't have ac), 41 is generator voltage low, and 51 was o2 sensor voltage sensed low (new sensor). I also found the conncetion to the coil slightly loose (the lock is broken off and is held on with a zip tie.) I tightened the connection and thought that was the end of it. I took the jeep to work today. I started the jeep this morning, CEL lights were cleared and everything was good until about 35 to 40 minutes into the commute. She started again. by the time I got to work the CEL light came on again and it was bucking and kicking. The same three codes are logged. I noticed the electrical indicator was also low, around 11v. With the code 41 and low voltage, I am thinking alternator at this point. Does this sound logical? It is about the only thing left under the hood that has not been replaced or rebuilt in the last 4 years.

sounds logical
51 i think it's lean condition, which would kind of make sense given the low voltage (forget Haynes, check this site's FAQ section for error codes).

Well, I ripped out the alternator, and took it to the local NAPA store. After 30 mins of watching the guy test it, improperly and not listening to me, his supervisor came over and performed the load test correctly. The alternator did fail. So now I can add the remanufactured alternator to recent list of replace or rebuilt parts. Now I have to install it when I get out of work tonight.
