Title: worth beefing up d35?
Post by: fobanger00 on April 23, 2012, 09:48:44 AM
is it worth beefing up the dana35 with new shafts and gearing and such or put that money toward a new axle? i was looking at the d44 and those run over 2000 for them with lockers

The new rear D44 axles are a good deal.  It would cost about as much to beef up and regear the D35, and it would still not be as good.  I haven't researched it too deeply but the Mopar replacement axles for TJs look like a good deal and they seem to come with better tubes than the stock TJ D44s.  Dynatrac also sells them with gearing options, not sure how much they increase the price for that.

They have several series, ProRock, Trail, and Mopar.  The Mopar is cheaper but not sure of the exact cost.

G2 axles are about like Rubicon axles but come with gears, locker, and alloy shafts.

That is pretty crazy.   The G2 axles might be worth checking.

If you swap stock D35 to stock Ford 8.8, that would be the cheapest but once you start adding locker, shafts, and gears, the new D44 might start to look good.

just buy one from the j/y and beef it up ( D44 or 8.8 ) - won't take you nowhere near $4000, even with a locker and upgraded spline cromoly axles you should still be less than 1/2 that price when it's all said and done.
