Title: Noise?
Post by: jcrockarell9937 on April 29, 2012, 09:13:18 PM
On the way home today, I started the jeep up and heard a loud hissing sound. It stopped after i took my foot off the clutch. Everytime I clutched to shift gears, I heard it. Its a loud hissing/screeching noise. Also my BRAKE light and AIRBAG light were on when there was no reason(E-brake was off). I got home and turned the jeep off and back on and tried it again and it didn't do it? Bad clutch? No offroading in the past few weeks. I was on my way home from work?
Any suggestions?

clutch throwout bearing (aka release bearing)

e-brake and airbag lights have nothing to do with it, so that's another matter.

throwout bearing also sounds almost like a slight knocking

could also be the pilot bearing. I had a Nissan 4x4 with what I thought was the release bearing bad but turned out to be the pilot bearing. It was the needle bearing type it had locked up.
