My little brother has a 1992 Isuzu Amigo. Its always been a POS since he got it ... Hardly ran, poor mpg, trans acted weird. I worked my ass off cleaning this, draining that, blah blah blah... Then it quit starting, it quit charging, AND it would do all kinds of neat crap like the lights would stay on with the switch off. None of the problems with the start/charge system were bad enough until this point to actually put a meter on it. The alternator wasn't charging... Crap... Starter wasn't starting... Hmm....
The grounding cable for the battery was just stuffed in the crevice between the AC compressor and the block. Attached the ground cable to engine block.
All problems solved. :fish: That was my morning...
The clutch went out on my 1992 Ford F150. I limped it home, and started pricing parts, tried to sell the truck for awhile and didn't want to let it go for $200 so I pulled the inspection plug a month later.
Mice had built a nest in it and their nest got into the clutch housing. So a piece of coat hanger, and my mom pressing the clutch and bumping the starter, and an air compressor.... I cleaned out the mouse nest from the clutch and problem solved.
Any stories of your "easy" fixes to share?

I recently plugged a tire, that was much less work than changing it.

My truck stopped and wouldn't restart on the freeway years ago and 30 miles from my house. I was courtesy towed off by the freeway crews, but just to the nearest exit. It turned out to be a clogged catalytic converter, and my father in law used a can lid from soup and put a wire hanger through it. He then took out the O2 sensor out on the manifold and put the lid into the O2 hole - the lid provided a shield and allowed me to limp it home.

my first vehicle back in the day (a Renault, very tiny by today's standards and pretty beat up) - i had 2 flat tires on the same trip, second one happened to be on a hwy close to home (about 25 miles) but was a Saturday night past midnight and could not get anyone to come out, took the spare out (which was flat from before) drove over the tire a few times so it releases off the rim, used couple of prybars to take it off on one side, filled it with leaves, grass, some rags i had in the trunk and whatnot and was able to drive it home.

Aka justin, for some reason that reminded me of hobos cooking beans over a fire in a can. Very cool idea, never would have thought of that.
Sharp, sounds like a green alternative to actual air. Doesn't sound easy though lol.

easy enough, tires were small, 12'' rim diameter if i remember correctly and they had the tubes inside so not that hardly pressed on the rim, beats the heck out of walking 20 miles in the middle of the night :lol:
