Title: CB making the speedometer go crazy
Post by: aka-justin on March 17, 2013, 09:28:06 AM
I finally used that CB I bought months ago on my last trip a week ago. I noticed about 50% of the time I keyed up, the speedometer went coo coo - jumping all over. At one point, it jumped to the govenor speed making the whole thing buck.

Anyone seen this or do I need to sh17 can this radio? I'm using a small speedometer recalibrator by the PCM, but the CB and antenna wire are no where near.

Strange,  maybe it's (RF) leaking into the calibrator.  I'd try shielding it (calibrator).

do you have the solenoids on the + wires to the CB. Soulds like it's sending HF thru the +12v somehow, could be that it has an internal problem.

Wouldn't hurt to moive the wiring from the CB as far away as you can from anything speedo related and make sure the CB and the CB antenna have a good ground

Suspect a voltage problem.  The gauges go crazy in my 2003 Neon whenever the battery is starting to go bad.

Everything is seperate from the speedo recalibrator and the CB except the ground. I'll isolate the ground for the CB and try shielding the recalibrator if not - it'd be easy to.
