Just going back and refreshing my memory on the single to dual diaphragm swap. Is the mount the same length between them?
I can't tell from the picture;

what you're interested in is the length of the rod sticking out from the mounting face to the tub, should be the same (still have my dual diaphragm booster in the garage, didn't get a chance to put it on yet so i can't tell you for sure if the mount itself is the same but as long as you get the one that comes with the booster should should bolt right in).

Well that's the problem. If I get a new/reman. it won't come with the bracket. I've heard '95's had both boosters though. Which is what I'm wondering if they are the same size. One is stamped while the other is welded though.
Might be better to get one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321197468915

That's not a bad price and it saves time not having to find the bracket.

i have a '95 and came with the regular vac booster, got the dual off a '95 at the j/y
the brake lines at the M/C are different (the thread) so you'll need those as well.
-
one thing you could do, measure the distance between bolts on the booster side on the one you have and compare with the double diaph one, the length of the bracket looks the same from the picture but you could also measure the length of it and substract from the length of the rod sticking out - compare that to what you have at the brake pedal.
Just thinking if you already have it not to spend the $200 on the ebay one just for the missing bracket (it also looks smaller than the stock double one - says 8'', dunno what the stock one diameter is but worth checking).
-
I just clued in that you don't have it yet - you also need the M/C as the old one won't work on the dual, so that deal on ebay looks good - check the diameter on yours though as that one looks smaller but could be just the picture.
-
I think they were different; but dont remember 100%. I did that swap some 5 years ago, and then went to hydroboost, and my memory is not as good as it used to be!
-
A '95 MC and Booster is around $150 new/reman. I think $10 each for thread adapters. That's not too bad. Still not sure what I'll do but better brakes are in the cards. I don't think I need hydro boost. The Jeep brakes pretty well right now. Just want a bit more bite. I also might consider doing a Teraflex Disc conversion since they still make a kit that fits the XJ44 and it's reasonably cheap as well.

Does it have a E-brake with the kit?

Yes, which is why it's a pretty good deal.

You can use rear disc brakes off a '96 and up Explorer (solid axle). Teraflex sells the spacers by themselves. It's supposed to be fairly easy to do - just grind the openings slightly larger to fit over the D44. This is a pretty common mod for the XJ guys with 44 rears.
-
You can use the rear discs of a mid 90's ZJ; they work on both the D35 and D44 (with some adjustment)
-
The reason for not going salvage is comes down to this. I don't want to deal with rust, fabricating and hunting for little parts nor replacing said parts with new ones because they are too far gone. Having both 5 on 4.5 and 5 on 5.5 bolt patterns is also a big plus. It's still not at the top of the list though. I'd probably replace the master and booster first.
According to this guy he's using the stamped bracket for his Dual diaphram on it. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/95-dual-diaphram-booster-master-cylinder-upgrade-1287758/
Though if I can get enough bite without going to the floor, I might not bother with discs. The complaints with drums are a bit moot since I can take them apart faster then discs.

Compared to GPW brakes, modern brakes are quite powerful. It is just that we have gotten used to braking by just moving the ankle instead of using the whole leg!

I am interested in this kit as well; not so much for the improvement in braking, but more because of the maintenance free operation that disc brakes offer, especially considering the abuse we put drum brakes through with all the mud here. This would also help me solve my e-brake problem, I think (at least, with a new cable, which I saw are like $18 online...)

That's more because they are manual brakes. Not to mention the curb weight for a flat fender is around 2200 lbs and a top speed of 50mph. Although you can get some really good brakes without using boost.

The kits been around for years. I remember some guy's telling me to but the CJ kit (It used to be for CJ's) since it was better then SSBC which is really a box of parts in comparison.

What's the best place to get it from?

Summitracing.com probably. Jeg's sells it as well as Qtech. Or you can order it from Teraflex.
-
Summit sells some. But kind of spendy. Plus one that says Big Ford Ends. Not sure what they are talking about there but it supposed to be for the 35.
-
This one was the best price I found the last time I looked. Had it on my saved searches.

It does beat anything at summit. As far as price.
-
But Quadratec is a few bucks more and I have worked with them.

not the same kit though they sell it but with an incorrect description IIRC

thats not the same. That's for a d35c not a D44 xj. It doesn't look like Tera's either.
-
Ok I'm looking for one for a 94 YJ which one of those would work. Since they both say they will.

You want the one for '91 and up. Keep in mind that you'll be paying shipping on that through qtech unlike with summitracing. Summit racing s a very well known store. More so then even qtech.
-
Cost at summit was about $200 more. I normally do use Summit for everything.
-
$551.91 + $64.99 (qtech) v. $572.84 (summit) = $200 more at Summit?

What part number from Summit did you look up. Cause I find no teraFlex kit for my year. All they list is one for a 35 but with Big ford ends.
The cheapest kit I find for mine is one by Summit That costs 699.97. The rest are 7-800.

So any changes between a jeep Cherokee and the Wrangler. Since that kit is not list for a Wrangler.

you need the 2 cables going to the axle in addition to this kit, the stock cables that are used with the drums won't work.
