Title: TJ AX5 into a YJ?
Post by: VA_YJ on September 13, 2013, 06:32:54 AM
My buddy has a '93 YJ (4 banger with ax5) that has a bad transmission.  Other than the conversion from internal slave to external slave, are there any issues with bolting in an AX-5 from a 2.5 liter TJ (year unknown)?  Just wondering about the input shaft...

I don't believe there are any differences but '93 was a one off year.

Thanks, he's picking it up tomorrow for $300 (assuming it's tight and smooth)

Looks like it's going to work fine. FYI - The shifter on the TJ version is different (a goose neck at the bottom).  The YJ shifter will bolt onto the shift tower with no problems.

kind of late, but I am running a TJ Ax5 in my yj and it works just fine. Just reuse your shifer as said.

Yeah, it's working just fine.  The only other issue is that the bellhousing on the external slave models is a little different shape, so we had to "tweak" the exhaust head pipe a bit to get proper clearance.  Thanks!
