Title: Getting ready to do a SYE but I have the wrong speedo gear
Post by: 01amberfirewv on March 31, 2006, 08:37:01 AM
I picked up a used SYE and a new Tom Woods shaft and am getting ready to do the install. I am currently running the stock 4.11's (01Wrangler SE) and 31's. I hope to go with 4.88's in the future but am not sure if I'll stick with 31's or move up to 32's or 33's. THe SYE came with a speedo gear for 33's and 4.56s. Does anyone know how far off I'll be if I use that one?

Well without knowing what speedometer gear you have it's a bit difficult to know.  Tooth count is a bit of a hit or miss sort of thing.  Sometimes the correct tooth count isn't even available.

In anycase, I"m betting it's a stock 41T in there.  Probably the same gear that's in your Jeep right now.

No, the tooth count for the 4.88/33's....  For it to be correct, it would need to be 41T which is the stock tooth count.  Now he could have gone with a 39T or even lower for some reason to account for the exact tire size.

I should have said that the SYE I got was off of a Sahara with 4.56's and 33's.  The speedo gear was put in to compensate for the tire/gear change.  If I can (I thought it wouldn't fit) I'll probubly stick with the stock one for now
