Title: Crossed over to the dark side.
Post by: SDWE61988 on December 31, 2013, 12:18:49 PM
Well guys, gals,

I have not logged in on here for a while now.  Some of you may recall I wrecked my jeep on black ice last February.  I debated for a long time if I would bring the jeep back or not.  I did not have the money to do it, and had other vehicles and stuff at the house to work on.  Well, I finally bit the bullet and traded the old jeep in on a 2014 Wrangler Rubicon.  I was getting ready to order a replacement suspension kit for the old one when the wife finally pulled to plug. She said "no more".  She knew how much I loved the jeep that she begged me to get a new one instead of sinking money into the old one.  I will miss the simplicity and toughness of the yj.  The JK is such an evolutionary step up.  Much more comfortable on the road, with much better road manners. I have received a lot of great advice on this forum, and hopefully helped someone along the way with my limited knowledge.  I will still check in on here.  This one of the best jeep forums I am part of and read.

I guess I need to change my signature and avatar.  I have some old yj parts I will post in the garage sale soon if anyone is interested.   I just need to move it out.  not looking to make a lot of cash on it.

I'll keep a eye out for the YJ parts.  My wife asked when I'd stop on mine. I told her when she buys me a new one.

congratulation on the purchase. When I graduated college and got a full time job I traded my 1990 yj in on a 2007 Rubicon. it is quite the jump in technology. some of it nice and some of it very frustrating. The simple normally serviceable parts like like front drive shaft u-joint and front axle u-joints being a dealer or internet order only can realy throw a curve ball in your repair plans.

This is how you know you're getting old.  You want more comfort and you can't just go to work looking like you got out of a shower.  You'll soon start to enjoy not having to fix things all the time.

Yeah, this getting old thing sucks.   It is nice to get into a jeep that will acually get get warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  It is also nice to be able to merge on to an interstate without worry. :driving:   I will miss the simplicity of the old blue YJ though.  The wife has already mentioned  "now that you have all this free time, from not fixing the old one, You can start working on finishing the basement of the house"  I hate carpentry!  I suck at at.  I guess I will be getting more practice though.

JK's are pretty good, actually. Got a buddy who built his up and wheels it. Does very very well and is 100x more comfortable and reliable than my 4banger. Plus it's a hell of a lot more powerful
