Title: High pinion Dana 44 swap
Post by: stan98tj on June 28, 2015, 09:13:08 AM
Looking for the right axle to start my front axle upgrade. I want an HP 44, i understand that i need to keep it pre-1978. I've seen info from folks using F100, F150 and Bronco axles. Are the bronco ones narrower or different in any way? Can an F250 axle be used? I also need to convert to 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern (rear is an 8.8 ).

Are you wanting to go full width or wanting to cut down a housing?

I think no matter what, it has to get cut to stock width.

The site below has good info on D44 for flatop knuckles and 5x5.5 bolt pattern combos.

Nice, that was pretty quick turn around...something like a day.

Now comes the decisions to cut and shorten, by who, then follow up with truss and 3 or 4 link, change coils to COs, nitrogens, ORIs....

KISS rule can get complicated to follow.

Planning on 3 link front and triangulate rear this winter with 14" shocks up front. I'll be keeping the dana30 in there for now. Ill pick at the 44 slowly but surely. My buddy Dan is the "Axle King" and will be chopping it down for me.
No coil overs for now hahaha

That is very nice axle to have.  Good luck with the project.
