Question for you Jeep experts. If I remember correctly, Chrysler put a 4 banger turbo in their PT Cruisers. Does anyone know if that is the same engine as the 4 banger in the TJs? If so, wouldn't it be possible to swap some parts or engines to boost a TJ?
Thanks,

It is and it isn't. The bottom end is beafed up and because it's a transverse engine, the exhaust manifold is upside down for what you'd need. A guy in Reno, Sierra-something (here) had made some adapters but I haven't seen him on here in ages. He might still be on the Reno4x4 forum btu I'm not sure. In any case, he was going to do a SRT4 swap then ended up using the exhaust manifold/turbo on the stock bottom end since it was too much a PITA to swap it all over. Try searching for his threads here.

I'm guessing that my 2.5 liter AMC motor is different than the 2.4 liter Dodge/Chrysler motor. Sounds like the turbo 2.4 used in the PT Cruiser and sporty Neon had a more robust bottom end with forged rods and different pistons. This seems like a pretty neat modification if someone made it work right. Seems like the engine bay would have plenty of room once an electric fan was installed.

It's a completely different engine then the 2.5L. 2002-2006 TJ's used the 2.4L which is the same engine.

For the amount of work it would take to swap a 2.4L in place of your 2.5L, you could install a turbo on your 2.5L. Or swap in a 4.3L or even a 350/5.7L.

I thought one of the advantages of the PT Cruiser 2.4 turbo is the forged internals / different pistons?
Anyway, won't the 2.5 blow up if a turbo is added?
Is there a turbo kit available for the 2.5?

[/quote[How much boost are you planning on? You can safely run 5-8lbs of boost on a N/A block.
