I'm planning out my build and I saw that there was talk of a Toyota 8 inch on the forum and they seem to be stupidly strong and have the perks of a Ford 9 inch with the size of a Dana 35. I believe I found one in a yard out of a V6 Tacoma (not sure, didn't look too much, just glamced at it in passing) and I was wondering if anyone has actually swapped one into their Jeep. All the yards around here know about the 8.8, so they charge a premium for those, and I like the compact size of the 8 inch because I plan on doing as little lift as possible. The only thing I'm not sure about is the parking brake set up. Thanks for any input.

A former member and friend of mine did the 8" rear. No big deal. I forget how he was able to get the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern back though. I'm thinking adapters. I'm not sure how compatible the smaller 8" with 5 on 4.5" shafts would work with the V6 axles. Otherwise, I see no problems with the 8" and I'd probbaly go with an 8" over the 8.8" for the same reason you mentioned but also because they are lighter.

I want to say it was 4wd (it was lifted, so just assuming), and I believe the 4wd trucks had six lugs. I was just going to run wheel spacers to get back to the right width and either havethe spacers drilled to the right pattern (if they don't make a six lug to 5x4.5 pattern, I've seen 5x4.5 to 5x5.5) or take the axles to a machine shop and have them drill them to the right pattern, and use regular spacers. I'll see if I can get over there one day this week. Thanks.
