Title: Camping Gear
Post by: Jeffy on May 31, 2017, 05:02:49 PM
Anyone camp without sleeping bags?  I'll be car camping so bulk isn't really a problem but most sleeping bags are a bit much.  As in you're laying awake because you're too warm.  Anyone use quilts?  I've been thinking about going with a cargo blanket for a mat and a 'camping quilt' for warmth.  The low is probably going to be in the 50's and the high in the 80-90's.  The heat and sun gets you up around 7:30-8 am.  What do you use?

I have a bedroll I bought years ago, its a canvas bag (Like carhart pants) with a quilt, woool blanket and sheets in it, rolls up to about 12" in diameter and about 3' long.

Bought it from Herters about 40 years ago.. I think Cabelas sells them, prob Bass Pro as well.

I've slept form -40 to over 100 in it.. You just ditch the wool blanket and quilt if its too hot.

I ended up biting the bullet and getting a set of bags.  They were cheap at $16 on sale at Amazon.  They're 50* bags which should be fine and they're simple.  I still want to do some bed rolls though.   I'm wondering what the temps are going to be like if the snow pack is still big and it snowed yesterday.
