Title: Running without a Sway Bar
Post by: jfrabat on August 01, 2017, 08:17:25 AM
Guys, I have a question for you.  On the last wheeling trip, I bent the lower pin that holds the swaybar disco.  On the drive back, to be honest, I did not notice much swaying on the road (and the road back is really twisty!).  Obviously, I was not taking corners like I was racing, but it was very manageable.  I have a reverse U-Bolt set at home that I never did install because it had no provisions for the swaybar, but now I am considering removing the swaybar altogether.  Do any of you run without a swaybar?  Are there any other adverse effects I should be aware of if I decide to remove it?

You're still running track bars aren't you?  Those bind the suspension up so you might not notice much body roll.  The problem isn't really normal driving though.  Where you'll notice it is when you have to do more aggressive turns with a little speed.  Turn sharp into a parking spot and you'll feel the body roll.  Emergency maneuvering, etc...

So you would not recommend removing them then?

It depends.  Try it and see how much body roll you get.  Do some tight turns and such.  I run mine because I get a significant amount of body roll and it's a daily driver.  I've had to slalom through traffic to prevent an accident.
