Has anyone heard about the sts rear mounted turbo charger system? They do not have a kit for jeeps but doing a turbo this way might be a little bit easier for a homemade turbo setup. We wouldnt have to fabricate a new exhaust manifold. If anyone has any information on this type of turbo charging please chime in. it appears to be a lot easier to make a homemade one of these than a front mount turbo.

I've seen this done to get around emissions. (CA emissions ends at the last cat.) It looks awefully weird and put the turbo really low and in a place where it could get damaged if you wheel it.
Most of the ones I've seen leave the stock manifold and use a modified down pipe to bring the exhaust up the passenger side fo teh block then back down to the stock cat location. I think this would be the best compromise.

rear mounted set-up = pretty dumb imo. The oil lines are going to be verrrry long, and you have to run a pump for the oil return since the turbo is lower then the pan. In addition, you have to route charge pipes all the way back up from the rear. If you are goign to wheel your jeep there are way to many things to get damaged. Not to mention spool up time is increased. I'll have some stuff posted about my plans at the end of this summer, it should help a lot of people out who want to turbo their jeep.

cost wise do you think it would be any cheaper?

Cost wise, I doubt you's save anything especially compared to just modifying the downpipe and leaving the manifold.
