Title: which axle to lock in my YJ?
Post by: chuckstar on April 24, 2006, 10:51:12 PM
i know this question has been asked a thousand times but im going to ask it again.  i am planning on wrenching an '89 2.4 Yj this summer for my first project jeep.  i want to make it capable offroad but a daily driver, so i was planning on throwing in one locker.  the question is the front or the back?  its got the D30 front of course, but '89 is when they switched to the c-clip D30's and i BLEIVE it has a non-c-clip in rear.  I'm not sure how much of a difference this really makes although ive heard this means it is a slightly better axle.  The other consideration i have is that most of the weight is over the front axle so i would probably want that locked as it would provide more traction.  Finally, i also plan on having the posi-lock system which would give me more control over a locker in the front when turning and such.  So, what do you guys suggest for maximizing offroad capability while maintaining onroad preformance?  and what locker should i run with (im looking for inexpensive, possibly an aussie locker)?  thanks
