I recently put in a TB spacer in my 97 4cyl auto and am having the weird second gear shift with my automatic. I recently had my transmission serviced and it was shifting great before the spacer. I also reset the cpu to relearn any changes after the spacer.
I know the overall feeling is that a spacer does not make a huge difference but I have found that my 4 squirrels run stronger between 40 and 60 mph. Less push on the skinny pedal to stay there on flat ground.
I am running 31" with the automatic and getup and go is something I only dream about.
Any one encounter this?

Actually the overall feeling here is that the spacer does make a difference. So you're in good company. :D
Since the spacer is easy to remove, I'd do that. Then see if it's the spacer or the transmission. I doubt that the spacer would cause problems but then again, it's good to check everything.
What did you have done to your transmission?

My transmission was leaking at the gasket and need to be serviced. 75k and I think first time change. I had the bands adjusted and fluid changed only $100 with the ATF-3 :D. The leak stopped and the transmission goes through the gears pretty smooth.
Do you think the one inch rise could affect any cable length? There is no lag when using the skinny peddle just a quick shift into second that kind of makes it feel like a lag. Once the shift is complete it runs much better with the spacer for sure. At the point of the shift the speed on the flat section is about low 20's going to 25. Is one the cables connect to the throttle body connected to the transmission? There are two.
With out the TB spacer it shifts smooth. I like the response change with the spacer and don't want to go without it. Thanks

did u space the throttle cable bracket the same amount as u did the tbs, just asking b/c i didnt and that ended up being my problem when that happened to me

Is that what the extra spacer was suppose to go? I have three spacers and did not use the two on the airbox. I wondered what the third was for  , the instructions not mention the spacer usage. I will see if I can put in that piece tonight.
That sounds exactly like something I would miss. Thanks

Well I could not fit the one inch round spacer that came with the TB spacer under the cable bracket and get it to lineup correctly under the injector rail. Used some washers to get the it up as high as possible (little over 1/2"). It definitely did the trick, shifts nice and smooth, just like before.
If anyone has advice on how use the spacer correctly I would appreiciate the advice. I would like it to look as clean as possible. Thanks
