I wnet to put on those mirror relocation brackets to day, so i csan start to take my doors of well at least leaglly :D. First off i hate torx, second i was wrenching on one bolt for a good 5 mins and the thing didnt loosen, it was on a dead spin any ideas?
-
Was this the lower bolts on the windshield hinge? Those bolts have nuts on the inside of the body. They're probably covered in sealant and are mounted high up under the dash.
-
its illegal to drive without mirrors? I got pulled over last summer for running a stopsign with my doors off and the cop didnt mention that i didn't have mirrors<---no ticket that time. That was in Massachusetts though so maybe it mirrors is a state law thing. Anyone know what states you need mirrors in.
-
I'm pretty sure that you either have to have a rear view mirror (as in the windshield center mounted one), or your door mounted mirrors. I've heard you dont need both, but that's just hearsay.
-
Okay thats good to know I've got the windshield center mounted one so i guess driving with no doors and no side mirrors is legal then
-
hmm not sure but tomorow ill check and see if i can locat a nut in the body, i dunno but a couple of my buddies got tickets for no mirrors, so since i got he brackets for like 20 bucks i figured i'd play it safe.
-
^ some states may be different. And as i said, i dont know for sure, i'm just going off of hearsay.
-
Each state is different, Virginia has jacked up rules like if tint is on the windows, you must have mirrors on the doors. Easier to play it safe and just put the mirrors on when your unsure, the kit is less than a ticket and a lot easier than dealing with a cop having a bad day....
-
yea new york are a bunch of a$$holes when it come to laws, and the cops are dicks. For example i got a ticket for riding my quad in the woods, in the dead of winter druing a reakin snow storm, there was a dec cop just chillen in the woods and walked up to me while i wa staking a piss. 160 buck ticket right there. bUt thats a nouther long story
-
I agree NY cops are awful, New York is the only state/time I ever got pulled over in my jeep for speeding, speeding in a 4 cyl, yea sure. fortuneatley i didn't get a ticket but i was stunned to be pulled over for speeding, almost proud in a way though

Mirror laws vary from state to state. Sometimes the laws are not enforced even if they have them. I believe you need at least one rear facing mirror. Some require two though. I probably won't be driving the interstate without mirrors even though I always look.
-
If there is a mirror, does it have to directed correctly? Funny thing about mirrors, in order for them to work, they have to be adjusted properly. So if you are required by law to have a review mirror on the outside, put one there. Tape it to the side, tie wrap it on, it's there.....
-
The laws usually just state the numbers and general locations.
-
Here we need a rear view mirror and one on the drivers side....which is good as the one on the passenger side (both are relocated) is impossible to see out of with the full doors on. Good thing I won't need it as that is where the snorkel will need to go!
-
For those with 6pt cages, you could run something like this. $16.

The Feds require 2. I believe some states will ticket you if you only have two and pack the vehicle up soyou can't see outside. Add a passenger side mirror practically standard now, and you'd be legal again.
I have driven with only the rear mirror but not for any length of time. I think Popo see Jeeps as a bit difference since the doors are removeable. If I was going to run without doors for any extended amount of time then I'd rig up a mirror. No point reinventing the wheel. I've heard of some people using motorcycle mirrors though the top hinge. I found the DS mirror while looking at DS's.
-
I know bikers who would tape a little dental mirror to the handle bars in order to comply with the law if pulled over. Now, that would be funny to drop into the door hinge when you pull the door out.
-
Well i finally got the time to screw around with the screws some more. I ended up drilling two of the four screws out, and i then went to home depot got some stainless bolts and put the brakets on. After that i went for a celebration ride. :D i got a picture of it done ill post it soon

Could you stand a little further away to take the picture?? :)

I know here in Wisconsin you gotta have a drivers side mirror. You also need either a pass side OR center, and if one is blocked from view you need the other. That being said, for months I ran with two stick-on blind spot mirrors stuck right under the dash speakers, so when the doors were off I had an excuse....I mean mirrors
-
I really like that idea Jesse-James I might have to copy that this summer
-
I just ended up getting the "CJ" style mirrors. Had to modify the arm of the pass side one so it didn't stick straight up and hit my lights. I like it much better than the stick-ons though even though they were kinda legal(http://www.chiefshuddle.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)
-
I like the idea of the stick on, ones though because it is cheap and everytime I get in my jeep with the doors off I will down at the little useless mirrors and chuckle to myself. And anyone who asks about them I am sure will get a laugh too. I think i'll just put velcro on them and keep em in the glove box for when the doors are off.

I say go for it, I never got stopped. But I swear around here if you own a Harley or a Jeep, you could do donuts in the mayor's lawn and not get stopped. But as soon as I get in my Van or Olds, it's a different story.(http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/mad/boese047.gif)

Yea I have noticed that police don't pay a whole lot of attention to my wrangler as well. Unless their are asshats in the back seat swinging on the rollbars when i'm driving.
