Title: 4.56 or 4.88???
Post by: Yjeep93 on May 11, 2006, 10:20:05 AM
Hello every one! I have been hovering around for a while now and finally have some questions. I have been debating on what engine IM going to use for my jeep. I new about the supercharger for it and after reading the post on here about the cam I have decided to keep the banger and build it up a bit. I have a super 35 kit with a Detroit in the garage but IM waiting to put it in until I get some gears. IM also going to run an assise or lock right up front for the summer. My question is what gear's are you 4 cylinder guys running?Right now I have 33s but plan to go to 36s and hate not being able to get to 5th on the highway. I had my mind set on 4.88s but thought I would ask to see what others are running before I order them. Thanks a bunch!

There is no reason for you to go with 4.56's.  Even with 33's 4.88's will be the better ratio.  For 36's you'll really want to go even lower but it seems you've already invested a lot into your axles already.  I suspect the 36's will be Bias-ply making them heavy.  Go 4.88.

I run 4.56's and 35's and it's ok.  I wish I had a few more RPM's though.  I use 5th occasionally still.  I'd like to regear to 5.13's or 5.38's but I'm holding off till I can replace my D30 with a 44.

I've got a 4cyl/35's and 4.88's...

I'm pretty happy with that set up.  I can only go that tall of a gear for the front since I've still got the D30 up there.

I still use 5th gear, and standard hwy driving does great.  So 5.13's or 5.38's would be remarkable...   You can survive with 4.88's
