Title: Detroit Lockers
Post by: 95 Lowbuck on July 31, 2006, 06:04:20 AM
Are all Detroit Lockers the same for a Dana 44,
front, rear, old, and new?
Are their any spline changes for these different applications?
I just bought an XJ Dana 44 and if I come across a
used Detroit Locker I need to know.

Not all Detroits are alike.  There are No-spin and Softlockers.  Then in the late 90's they made most of their lockers Softlockers but got rid of the name.  So depending on the age, it could be a old Detroit or a newer Softlocker.  Softlockers are a bit smoother and don't make much noise.

There are other differences though.  Gear breaks still apply.  I think it's 3.xx down and 4.10 up.  There are also different spline counts.  19 and 30.  19's are for older D44's from the CJ5.
