Post by: chardrc on August 07, 2006, 07:38:59 PM
ok i know this is a 4banger forum.. but i have a question about the 4l motor in my dads rubicon. we got a fulltraction longarm kit in it and put in new exhaust... and when we looked at the down pipe it divided in to 2 tubes and each had a can like thing on them.. what are these cans are they like extra cats??

its a 2006 rubicon.. hope you dont get too made at me for bringing this up.. but it might also be on new 4bangers also so ya.

Those extra cans are pre-cats.  Basically extra cats for emissions.

Here in Indiana we can put 10,000# truck plates on our Jeeps and remove the cats. Or do radical engine swaps. No emission check for vehicles with 10,000# plates

actually those are the main cats the last and third one before the muffler is for california emissions only.  all 4.0 are like that from about 02 and up in grands and wranglers.  i took the third car off my grand because it is not monitored by the pcm.

ow so we are still leagal with our rubicon :naughty: .. not that we ever get tested in minesota anymor anyways wow when you have to have 3 cats you know there is something f'd up with emisions and that alot of gas is being wasted and power by habving to have enough gas vapors left to make 3 cats work.. i hate emnitions stuff.
