Damn....that's within 3 hours of me....should I be worried with the high miles and the rust??  I would re-gear anyway.  New mounting brackets would have to be welded on??  Aren't there kits for that??

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a "buy it new and have it installed" kind of guy due to my lack of mechanical experience.

This may be too good to pass up.  Thanks.

EDIT:  Anyone want to take a guess at the cost for the additional parts and labor to get this thing on my TJ?  Assuming new gears for the rear as well as the front (would go to 4.88's)....also, if you feel it is worth it.

I spent around $800-1000 for my rear axle to get it to where it is today.  That's with a Detroit and gear change.  I've rebuilt the brakes pretty much completely and replaced one axle shaft that was bent.

You'll need to move your TJ brackets over to the axle which will be a bit of a pain but if you've got the tools then go for it.

so...you're saying I should get it.....considering brand new, ready to install is around $2,400....I could make out pretty well with this...

The tools ands some welding knowledge...

I've never done it (thank goodness)...  But you have to weld the coil spring plates at a specific angle.  Then the upper and lower control arm brackets need specifics too...  Shock mounts, rear anti-swaybar mount and track bar mounts need to be added too...

I think Rubicon Express sells a kit...

Well, if you're up for fabricating then it might be worth it.  Otherwise go for a TJ D44.

Heh, thats less than 30 mins from my house.... I think I even know the guy that is selling it. To bad in not a welder, I would buy it cash.... I want a D44 F&R so I can put ARBs in it.

so....did you weld the new brackets on??  How difficult?  I'm assuming everything worked out.....was yours as rusty as this one...just a little worried about that.

So far I have ground off the old brackets. We are measuring this week for the new brackets. Mine came out of an operating Cherokee and was not rusty at all. I degreased it and pressure washed it. Will paint with POR15. I would not worry to much about rust it just means more prep time. I don't see the brackets as that big of a deal. I have already installed an SYE so my plan is to measure the pinion angle as it sits now, rotate the 44 to the same angle on the bench, and weld on the brackets.

christ...outbid again...and now I'm wondering if I should go up over $200 for this thing...was really hoping I would get it for under $200 since it will cost $50 in gas just to pick it up....oh well....I think I'm done.

Won't have the money to do a full install until next February anyways.

ooooo...real sex coming on...yes.

It took me several months to source all of the parts.

I think I'm giving up on this one...bidding war....looking for an 8.8 locally.  Stronger and will do the disc brake conversion at the same time.
