Hows it goin? Im new to the site, I just bought my first 4banger jeep a couple months ago, and I have started a teardown and rebuild on it. It is going to be a gift for my wife when she returns from deployment in afghanistan. It is a 90 YJ islander, TBI and I alike many im sure, am looking for some ways to increase the power in this little mill. So, if u got any cool tips, tricks or parts, be sure to let me know, and i am sure you will see me here frequently checking out the tech articles. Cheers!

There seems to be lot’s of different opinions on Jeep performance mods, personally, many of the small mods have added up to more power gains on my 89 and cost was fairly low. For example, after going to electric fan (flex-a-lite) I found the fan actually only runs when the vehicle is stopped at a light or off-road when crawling in low gear and no airflow is available through the radiator due to insufficient speed. As I thought more about this I began to realize previously the engine had been turning a power robbing mechanical fan all the time which was really only needed occasionally, therefore now, brake horse load on the engine via alternator will be much less due to the very occasional operation of the thermostat controlled Electric fan. Take your time and research the mods.

What we did was buy a gasket at Autozone (Felpro 60747) which we used as a template then used the PowerAid TBS for the 91-01 2.5L to gage the thickness which was 1"
