Old pump was/is making a ton of noise, so its getting changed out. Never really had problems with low mph cooling, off-road, even when its been 90s or 100s degrees outside. This new pump is supposed to provide twice the flow at idle, higher flow in the lower RPM range, less hp to turn etc etc. Probably overkill for this 4 cyl though -- but what the hey, it was only $100 for the Flow Kool vs $50 for the standard pump, so no biggie.

Well let us know if you start having overheating problems. The problem with having faster flow is that the coolant isn't able to absorb enough engine heat to cool sufficently. Although all they really do is clean up the pasages inside the housing and rivit on a deflector onto the impeller. Some guy's don't like the idea of a rivited impeller on there. Thought the only other option would be a $$$ Hesco unit. Some people have had problems when they swnt with a high flow pump.

Yeah, I noticed that deflector thing when a comparison showed pictures of a Flow Kool vs a stock pump. Guess the deflector is supposed to, together with the pump blades, channel coolant better or something. Yeah, and saw the wider tubes on the pump. Would be ironic if the "Flow Kool" actually caused the engine to overheat due to excessively high flow rate

I have one on my jeep.I have not had any problems at low speed or around town but I did have an increase in temp one time when it was real hot and I was on the highway holding 70 mph but I think its because I need a new radiator.(That flow cooler pump is supposed to go back to stock flow at higher RMP's) I had my radiator rodded out about 6 years ago and I think its just time for a new one.

That's good news that you aren't having any problems with it at low speed or around town. See how mine does on the highway.
Will give full report on pump to the Bangers of the "4." Course, am probably just going to say, "pump works like stock, but took an extra $50 out of my beer buget :("

I've been really tempted to vent my hood... anyone else done this?

Several years ago I had a 75 CJ with the 304 that was overheating. I installed a new radiator and a Flow Kool water pump and never had problems after that. The pump kept it cool sitting in Denver's summer traffic and trail riding at 10,000-13,000 feet.
