Who has changed their headers themselves and how long did it take you? I have to to soon get motivated to put mine in and was wondering how long it will take me. Was there any problem areas?

Just purchased a TJ 97 2.5L 5spd a couple of months ago. The 4 cyl is a real dog. So for I have installed a throttle body spacer ( not much help), a screamin demon coil, wires rotor and cap,(not much help), and a stage 2 chip. I haven't installed the chip yet because the advice was to free up the intake and exhaust first. I'm also considering install of a header with a cat back exhaust. Love to hear how much time involved, or any other suggestions to get a few more ponies out of this motor. I probably could have purchased a 4.0L by the time I get done. Thanks!

I am also considering changing my header, if anyone has, it would be nice to hear some feedback, especially if they also changed the throttle body form a 4.0L as well.

well idk too much about the 2.5 but i know to change the header on an 4.0 was a bitch. but for how it looks its just the same thing but with two more cilinders so my advice is take your time dont get upset if it dont work the first time and give yourself like 12 hours to do it that should be enough time to take off the intake/exaust and a new gasket and clean everything up shouldnt be that bad good luck let me know how it turns out

Unless those outside studs break. Then give yourself an extra day.

Easy! It took a Friday night and a Saturday for me! Now an engine rebuild is hard work! Or a gear swap!

spray pb nut buster on the intake/exhaust bolts the night before taking them off. Loosen your belt, p/s pump flange bolts and all the other stuff friday night, then do the manifolds Saturday morn,and put it all together Saturday after noon or evening. The only problem area is getting our fat fingers on the middle bolts for the intake/exhaust manifolds. There is the pain.

I'm haveing a hard time finding a header for my 02' 2.5 TJ. I like the Pace Setter but it's only for 97' to 99' or 00'. Thats depending on the parts company I'm looking at. Bank's is nice and they say theres goes up to 02' but it's just to much money for me to throw out there. Why couldn't the Pace setter fit my Jeep? Or is there another brand out there that I don't know about thats cheap and will fit my Jeep? :(

Save your money and get the banks ,or just buy another stock one. Try www.4wd.com which is 4wd hardware and is where I got my header from. It is expensive but apparently worth the price. I finally got a credit card and put the purchase on it. welders will charge you too much to customize one for you. I called alot of companies and did alot of research before I bought the Banks. I even went to Pep Boys auto and asked them ,they found me a" black jack header" but I got nothing more , it was as if it were futile, they gave up searching and walked away from the counter.

BlackJack headers are made by DynoMax, I would take a DynoMax product over Pacesetter any day. My neighbor has thier headers and mufflers on his Cougar and couldn't be happier. It's one of the nicest sounding 302's that I've heard. If you can find one that fit's I would go for it.
