I can't find any 2.4L cat back systems at Quadratec! :shock:
Is there a difference from 4.0 and 2.4L as far as the cat back goes?

2.4 is different in every way because it is totally changed from the 4.0 where as the 2.5 and 4.0 are about the same just shorter. still i can't believe a cat back shoud be any different.

yea 2.5's and 4.0's and 4.2's are all the same.

I mentioned this on another thread. I don't believe any aftermarket cat is ODB-II Compliant. It doesn't mean they haven't been used though.

That makes sense, but I just need the muffler and tail pipe. I can't even find those for a 2.4L are they the same as a 4.0?

I'm not certain. Take some pictures and compare them? I suspect that everything behind the cat is the same though. Only the engine was changed and that would effect the exhaust manifold, downpipe and perhaps the connection at the cat.

Every time I work on the 2.4L I dislike it more and more. :x
every thing looks about the same, mine bolts onto the cat, the aftermarket ones look like they weld on, the mounts look a little different too. I have a club meeting tomorrow night ill just look at there jeeps and see if the mounts are close.

just go to a muffler shop with whatever muffler you want and have them bend pipes to match it. i used to do it for people all the time when i worked at monro.

This is what I did on my 2.4L. After installing a 33 skid I had the exhaust rebuilt from the manifold back. Had a high flow cat and muffler installed between the frame rails. They drilled a hole in the cat and welded in a bung for the 02 sensor. It improved mid range and the engine winds easier. Consistently get 16.9 city driving with 4.56 gears and 32x11.50 tires.

I just went to the muffler shop and had the guy put on a Flowmaster. He said the stock 2 1/4 tail pipe is fine and that any thing bigger would rob the backpressure needed for combustion. I think the theory is a certain amount of backpressure is needed for lower end torque. Take too much away and it will be more of a high end machine. That's what I have heard.

thats what Ive heard also.. and that is why you see ricers with coffee cans for exhaust tips n such.. even throw they still have 1 inch pipe behing that so it doesn't do anything..

Whats the deal with the coffee can exhaust ? They got that big thing that makes noise and they are fast cars.

Really, I know nothing about them. I never have been inclined to converse with a ricer, except for saying "I'll race you, off road". Do they have 3" exhaust and high flow everything? I ain't shting you neither,honest question.

You are not going to believe this. Using some common rice boy knowledge, I added 50 hp to this car. All I did is use some common ordinary products and ordinary hand tools. Many are in disblief, but its proven. I dynoed this car with a Ghetto-TECH PRO meter before and after and recorded gains of 50.3 hp and 73.2 ft/lbs or torque. Read on for step by step assembly instructions
Step 1
Obtain a large coffee can, bigger the better, and cut a hole in the bottom. make the hole larger than your exhaust pipe, so the flange used to attach it will fit.

Step 2
This step is optional, but it adds extra hp, and is free, so why would you skip it. Find a big, permant marker, and write "TypeR"on the side. Don't worry if you mess up, it can be easily erased with a cloth soaked with gasoline. I originaly had a black "R", then a friend pointed out that by making the "R" red, like the rice boys do, you gain a couple more hp. This seems to work for the honda boys, as they claim that simply adding a "TypeR" badge to your 18 second accord suddenly gives it the ability to beat a Mustang GT or Cobra.

Step 3
This is by far the most difficult part. Here, you must cut off part of a smaller coffee can, then roll it up and insert it into the hole in the larger can. Now you must attach the two somehow. I chose to solder it, as that was the only method other than welding that I could come up with.

Step 4
Now its time for the grabber paint. I chose to paint the inside of the can bright blue. However, when I was ready for the paint, my friend didn't have it yet, so I sprayed a white base coat, then followed up with the blue. This should make it brighter as well.

Step 5
Finally, attach the coffee can, now an official high performance tip, to the existing exhaust system. The vehicle recieving this particular tip, just had a boring, normal size tip put on a few weeks earlier, so I was able to simply remove this tip to make mounting the can to the exhaust system easier. I would highly recomend purchasing one of these boring tips as it makes the process much easier. I have to add I have been getting some interesting e-mail asking me what model Honda I was going to put this on. Well after careful consultation with production staff and technical crews we decided the largest HP gain would be on a red '92 Jeep Cherokee, limited, and a gold package, owned by a certain Ryan Davis.

If it's a true tuner car it will probably have at least one turbo and a 3" exhaust. Don't mistake a tuner car for a ricer though. A ricer will have the stock 1.75"" exhaust and run a wide mouth exhaust or just bolt-on a tip. The tips allow the gases to expand and then they reverberate in the can for that loud exhaust note. They want that same sound without having to spend $$$$'s for a better car with a turbo.

Not pretty by all means, but funny. At 1st I though it was going to be a cold gas/copper tubing deal to cool the gas before it entered the chambers but them I looked on. So I take it there is absolutely nothing to it , other than a noise maker. Unless it actually helps out with backpressure in some way. I got a straight pipe for my old yamaha 360 enduro, and it is fast but just the coffee can tip I guess is supposed to intimidate other people with noise.

Right on Jeffy. Thanks for the 411. Now I know why the v-8 trucks chase the ricers down the road bumper to bumper. Because the ricers can't get away.

like jeffy said there is two different import groups. i have seen tons of ricers but my subaru is fully tuned and has no decals all over or body kits but it does have 400hp at all four wheels. i like to see ricers, v8 cars (mustangs and camaros mostly) and trucks pull up next to me thinking i just have a little louder exaust. then when i spool my car and launch it with the front end a foot off the ground the kind of you a dumb look on there face when i am waiting at the next light. but don't get me wrong there is a ton of money in that car too. and it's for sale too if any body knows someone that wants to get into drag racing or rally cross or auto cross.

Legacy and a Forester are nice sleepers. I'd go with the Forester XT though. In the UK and Japan, there is a STI Tuner version of both cars.
