I'm going to swap out my 4cyl. I dont know why anyone would want to do that but I am. :) I need to know engines that are good fits. Im looking at the 4.3L Vortec out of a S-10. Let me know of all the good fits you can think of.

Easy and swap are mutually exclusive, I'm afraid. Just about anything will 'fit' into tha Jeeps engine bay.
Keep in mind that just about every swap will many a new transmission also. THen you've got to wire the thing up and depending on if it's Carb, TBI or MPFI, it will have varing challenges.

the vortec 4.3l will fit with plenty of room.. i keep on thinking abotu puting one in my jeep but nothin is happening.... i have a s10 with the 4.3l and it has plenty of power and decent fuel milage.... bigest thing about the sawp is that you need a beter trany..
as far as room goes.. remmeber they are long enough for a 6 cylender so you could put a v12 in if your heart so desiered.

my heart desires but my pocket definately doesnt

Only EASY swap for a 2.5L is another 2.5L

Having Done engine swaps on other vehicles, the first step is deciding which tranny and adapters you want. I am contemplating swapping out my 2.5 as well. I am leaning towards a Chrysler drivetrain/engine out of a Dakota or Durango or even a fullsize truck. With a little work you can adapt the jeeps transfer without buying adapters. Biggest hurdle is the input shaft matching splines on the tranny output and clocking the transfer if it's a dakota trans. Considering alot of JPers are using the AX-15 with the Dakota 2.5 Bellhousing..... And adapters are available for just about every manufacturers engines in front of an AX15, and I have heard the wiring is easier with a Dodge engine V6/V8. If there is such a thing as easy.... this would be closest I think. Even the 3.9L Magnum would really wake up a 4bangerJP! But that's just me, other guys will have other opinions. I kinda figure....it's a Chrysler built Jeep...... Go with it. If you haven't yet , read the FAQ on tranny swaps. Great info.

Even that's not 'easy' depending on the year. (ie 91+ engine in a '87-90)

go to advanced adaptors and get a kit for a chevy 350 swop. you will need the engin and the trans everything else is in the kit. good luck

my TJ is a 99 though and to pass emissions I think I have to have a motor that is my year or newer.

Ah, yeah to be legal in many states you would, which makes things more difficult.
