heater core is a good possibility but fluid can also do it very easily.  also make sure the mix for the fluid is even.  if you put in too much antifreeze it will not get hot enough plus damage your cooling system.  also your thermostat could be stuck open and not letting the engine fully heat up.  i have also seen water pump fins come apart and still cool the motor but not throw heat.  what year? motor? trans?  previous repairs?  not heat alll the time or just at idle?  does it get warmer when you are in the throttle?  what does the gauge read?  let me know the specifics and I'll try to help you.

I've had a T-stat do that to me in 3 different vehicles. If it's not getting up to temp that's probably it. Need more details though like YJ said.

yea um posted heater core this morn before running off to school, so thats pretty much all the time i had to write.  but it seems that our other members never seem to fail, at getting the other possibilities out there.check to see if the heater lines coming from the block are clogged, i kno it sounds odd, but i've seen it happen.

Check your cable connection that controls the heater core compartment flapper. It's the one that will move when you slide the heat bar over.

If the thermostat is stuck open the motor  will  take a long time to heat up, like maybe an hour. If the temp guage reads cool even after 15 -20 minutes the thermostat is bad. Mine takes about five minutes to read on the guage. Heater cores usually leak coolant, maybe.

when my heater core blew up the other day, it was worth than cold air coming out the defrost it was a terrible anti-freeze vapor that quickly coated my windshield making it impossible to see out of, I hope its not ur heater core because they are cost about 250 for the part and according to the book 7.9 hours to replace more than that if you have AC

you find me a michanic that enjoys heatercores and i'd be surprised.  we have them all the time in the wj's and they are murder getting out and the time from the book is hard to reach.  don't always assume you are getting ripped off sometimes  the mechanic is especially if he's flat rate.
