I have been plagued with this annoying leak out of my transmission. It's not coming out of the gasket but rather some where above it. I took a mirror and it looks like it is coming either from the shifter mechinism or the sensor. Has anyone experienced a leak in this area? What did you do to fix? Thanks.

What type of trans is it?
-
The build sheet say's its a 30RH 3 speed automatic.

It seems as though after I cleaned it and rechecked it that the leak is coming out on the drivers side where the linkage and sensor are located.
Is this hard to fix?

Can you tighten them?

Can you tighten them?
Unfortunetly I can barely reach it. I had to use a mirror just to see it. The drive shaft is right in front of where you access it. Looking at the picture, the silver shaft sticking up in te middle is where the leaks seems to be. Is there a seal of some sort there?
-
Hmm, doesn't look like it can be tightened. Probably a seal there. You might try to take out the console and the shifter cover on the floor and see if you can see it better.

Okay, After talking with the transmission shop. It looks like my shifter shaft seal (say that 3 times fast) is leaking. It only leaks when it is parked for a while. When the fluid drains back. They will have to drop the pan to replace it. They said no problem waiting til spring. Just the have to live with the mess. So I guess I'll get new fluid and the seal replaced then.
-
Also look at a deeper pan along with a drain bung. Better to do that when you actually have to pull the pan. Then add a cooler inline with the radiator lines. You'll be best to drain it all, even the torque converter if you are going to change the fluid. Then don't forget the filter.

the transmission housing looks mostly like a chrysler 727 the big seal you can pry out and tap back in with a deep socket now the smaller shaft that is inside kinda looks like it has one for the kickdown has an o ring in it if I remeber correctly you have to take the shafts out to replace that one could look that up in a old chrysler manual if need be
