i can not get the bolts out of my 93's track bars does anyone have any advice i also twisted every t-55 torx wrench i have i hate torx head what a crappy design
-
ya i hate those stupid torx things... they suck.. come on its a jeep they should use regular Made in USA bolts not this crapy torxs shit. :english: :bandit:
-
pb blaster and a good impact gun
-
Hmm, I've never had problems with the larger Torx... Don't get the cheap ones though.
-
i am going to have to buy some more torx head socket's cause i ruined the three that i had i may just burn them out with a torch them drive them through with a punch and if i ever want to put them back in just use real bolts
-
Mine were a pain to get off too. I wound up soaking them in PB everyday for 2 weeks before they finally came loose and even then I used a two foot cheater bar.
-
I used a lot (did I mention a lot!) of WD-40 to loosen mine up. Took about an hour to get both of my trackbars off. Would have been a 5 minute job if Jeep hadn't used he darned torx
-
I used a cut-off wheel to cut the heads off, then torched the bushings and pounded them through.
-
mine were a pain too but remeber to use the torx as the holder and turn the nut on the other side with the power. also means you can't use a gun but i loosened them that way then use a 3/8 impact with the torx once they were loose. mine rides much better without them but bumpsteer is much more noticable.

I don't think you can even get a gun to work with the location of the torx head and something else. I remember having to hold the torx and turn the nut because of room issues.

i got most of the nuts off i just cant get the torx bolts out i cant get a hammer in there to even try to beat them out like i said before i have a torch so i may just burn them out but it is soooooo close to that gas tank
-
Hmm, torch your "strong gas smell post" lethal combination.

:roflol: :roflol:

that is a good observation i actually fixed that last weekend i had a split down the side of my fuel filter so what i will do is soak a old welding jacket in water and completly cover the tank i will also put a bucket of water under where i am cutting so no hot boogers roll under my tire and if that dont work you will be hearing about me on the news lol lol

A small mapp gas torch worked for me, smaller flame than the oxy/c made me feel a little better too.
-
A grinder with a cut off wheel would be easier and less toxic. Otherwise go with a Sawzall or a cut off tool. Even a dremel with a reinforced wheel would work.
-
I think you misunderstood. I had to use the cut off wheel to remove the bolt heads and used the small torch to "convince" the bushings to let go of the bolt. Worked rather nicely.
-
i got the nuts off the bolts without much of a problem (only 1 busted knuckle) i just cant seem to get into the bolts to drive them outso i want to cut off the torx head of the bolt by whatever means possible (i have torches grinders with cut off wheels) so that i can drive the stem of the bolt out from the other side
-
Heat the bolts to about 300 to 400 degrees will let the loctite go and the bolts should come out easily. They use this stuff so stuff that keeps coming loose stays tight

today i got tired of messing around and used a torch and cut the bolts off and removed the track bar i used my better judgement and decided not to use the torch so close to my gas tank so i started to grind them off
