Title: Water Temp Sensor
Post by: 94kcyj on November 20, 2006, 06:39:50 AM
I just finished installing a used 2.5l in my '94 Wrangler.  The donor was, supposedly, from a '95.  Problem is I can't find the water temp sensor on the donor engine.  Supposed to be at the rear of the engine, but there is nothing there.  Anyone got any ideas?

Thermostat housing would be the next logical location. My old 94 had sensors in both locations

There are two.  One for the gauge and one for the PCM.  The one for the gauge is on the far end of #4 cylinder.  The one for the PCM is on the thermostat housing up front.

there doesn't seem to be anyplace on the rear portion of the block, head, or valve cover for the sensor like there was on the bad motor I took out.

Then I would say that your donor is either pre-91 or post 95. I have a head off of a 90 that doesn't have a port for the sensor on the head, and my 2000 doesn't either. Must have been just an OBD-I thing

where to put a sensor so I can get that guage functional.

There is already a sensor on the water pump.

I bought a 3/8th T fitting from home depot and mounted the factory sender for the dummy light and the sender for my autometer guage on it. Works perfectly  8)
