Title: Idle Speed

I just swapped my 2.5l TB for a 4.0l TB and I did swap the IAC from the 2.5 to the 4.0. The engine runs great, alot more power but now my idle speed drops very slowly. I was running at 70 mph down the highway I pulled off the highway and stopped to make a right turn (I was at the light for maybe 30 seconds) and the idle speed never dropped below 1000 but if I let it idle longer it will eventually drop around 600-700 rpm. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Make sure you take the sensor off and just clean it with some degreaser or carb cleaner.  Wipe it off and reinstall it.  You could also take the AIS housing again and clean the passage ways too.

I think idle should be around 700-750rpm.

mine idles at 800

mine usually idles around 1000.. it idled at 700 when i first got it and there was a big hole in the exhaust but it was practically dieing at idle then.

I think a smog check requires the idle to be no higher then 800

1000 sounds kinda high for an idle.  My idle bounces and I hate that it does around 700-725 range. It seems like it does 3 smooth (700,700,700)cylinder beats then on the last (725) cylinder it will give a slight jump up.  Then back into the same pattern of 3 smooth one jump (700,700,700,725) wierd.

I have read alot of people talking about exhaust leaks being related to alot of other thins there Jeeps are doing. My assumption is that any exhaust leaks and my Jeep is going to run like poop. Is this true? I suspect mine is leaking somewhere but I haven't located any leaks yet.

fixing the exhaust helped the wanting to die at idle.. but now it idles a bit high. but then again i don't get to drive my jeep very much. but my jeep still backfires so i think it needs a valve job...

but getting your exhaust fixed should help some other problems that your jeep may have.
